Rodeos
Hello friends,
Well, the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, and the Miss Rodeo America pageant is just around the corner! I have been hard at work, preparing to represent you and our great state of Arizona at the national pageant. I've been taking horsemanship lessons, with Laurel Walker Denton, at the Bar U Bar Ranch, working out at Freedom Fitness, and studying as much as I can!
Luckily, I got to take a break and attend the Turquoise Circuit Finals Rodeo in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The Turquoise Circuit belongs to Arizona and New Mexico, and gives local cowboys and cowgirls the opportunity to rodeo close to home, and still have a chance to earn a national title and big checks. The top 12 in each event qualified for the Turquoise Circuit Finals, now in its second year at Las Cruces. The year-end winners in each event, plus the Turquoise Circuit Finals Rodeo Average winners in each event qualify for the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo in Pocatello, ID in March. There, the candidates we send will compete against other circuit champions from the 11 other PRCA circuits. I traveled to Las Cruces with JC Trujillo, General Manager of Prescott Frontier Days and World Champion Cowboy. I respect JC, and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with him about changes in the sport of rodeo, since he competed and won the world in 1981. Once in Las Cruces, I met up with my good friends, Ashlee Stallings, Miss Rodeo New Mexico, and Kelly Horton, Miss Turquoise Circuit. I stayed with Donna Rutherford, who loaned me a really nice dun horse to ride. Thank you Donna! In between rodeo performances, I attended the Turquoise Circuit Queen Pageant, and even got to go skeet shooting with Ashlee and Kelly. I'd like to thank the Turquoise Circuit Rodeo Committee for putting on a great rodeo and Salt River Rodeo Company, for providing excellent and consistent stock. I'd also like to congratulate the year-end winners, and average winners in each event and wish them luck in March at the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo! The 2008 Miss Turquoise Circuit Queen is Brooklyn Chester. I think you will be pleased, as she is a real cowgirl and will fill the big boots that Kelly left for her!
I have one more trip planned before I head to Las Vegas! On November 8th, I will fly to Dallas for the Cowgirl Hall of Fame Inductions, and the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour Championships! I can hardly wait!
With the Miss Rodeo America pageant sneaking up on me, I best close and get back to work! If you are interested in attending the Miss Rodeo America pageant, it will be held December 1-8, in Las Vegas, NV. More information can be found at www.missrodeoamerica.com.
Until next time, keep a song in your heart, a smile on your face, a good horse in your barn, and wish me luck in Vegas! Miss Rodeo America or Bust!
Your friend,
Katie Hill
