Polo
Polo has been called the Sport of Kings but that's until applied to the game in Arizona. Now played in Queen Creek, Desert Hills, and WestWorld, for over 30 years polo has regularly been played predominately by men.
A growing group of women players have broken into the sport and taken it by
storm.
Today grass polo is still popular, but the games in the arenas are
introducing the new generation of Arizona female players to the excitement.
"We offer beginner polo in Queen Creek and Desert Hills for interested people", states Orlando Garrido. Lessons begin around $50 per hour and include the horse. "An hour of polo lessons is a long-time" adds Garrido, who keeps a string of horses for play in Arizona.
Garrido and other players often venture outside Arizona for high-goal polo.
That can be expensive, but local play is very affordable. "At one lesson a
week, it's not long before women are hitting the ball and ready for play",
claims Orlando.
