The first ever USA vs. The World Gladiator Polo of the world's top players battling for $15,000 winner take all is a thrilling feature of a Saturday Night Jumping Showdown at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.
Polo teams of three players each including Mike Azzaro and Jeff Blake for the USA will play three chukkers of Gladiator Polo after the jumping squads settle who takes home the $50,000 winner take all triple header of exciting challenges in the International Arena at 7 p.m. this Saturday, March 15.
Tickets for reserved seating are available for $15 online at www.equestriansport.com. Reservations can also be made for the Grand Prix Club, also known as the Jimmy Doyle Irish Pub, for $30.
A live band and family activities, including the hugely popular Horseless Jumping Course will be in full swing for the night of equestrian entertainment at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival presented by Zimmerman Advertising.
The top 10 riders from the U.S. and the top 10 foreign riders at WEF will contest an accumulator class, a match race and a six-bar competition in a format similar to golf's Ryder Cup in which athletes from each team go head to head.
The teams are:
USA--Laura Kraut, Lauren Hough, Kent Farrington, Margie Engle, Candice King, Georgina Bloomberg, Francie Steinwedell-Carvin, Nicole Simpson, Schuyler Riley and Debbie Stephens.
The World--Eric Lamaze (Canada), Connor Swail (Ireland), Ben Maher (Great Britain), Edward Doyle (Ireland), Peter Charles (Great Britain), Kevin Babington (Ireland), Shane Sweetnam (Ireland), Marie Hecart (France), Eduardo Salas (Mexico) and Pablo Barrios (Venezuela).
Captains are George H. Morris for the USA and Torchy Millar of Canada for The World.
In the accumulator class, five readers from each team will jump as many hurdles as possible, the winner of each round winning a point.
For the match race, all 10 riders of each team will ride mirrored courses.
The six-bar in which the jumps are raised after each round will see five riders from each team make attempts for four rounds.
In the event of a tie, the captains will each select a rider to break the tie by jumping the six-bar.
