Dressage
Top equine competitors from North America will be featured at Dressage Affaire 2008 at the Del Mar Horsepark, in North County San Diego. Dressage Affaire 2008 runs March 13 through March 15 and is open to the public.
The Dressage Affaire will feature the highest levels of FEI and USEF sanctioned dressage competition, including Grand Prix, Intermediare I and Prix St. George. The final day, Saturday, March 15, includes a fan favorite -- International Freestyle competition to music and a Champagne Brunch (limited seating available).
The Dressage Affaire, a qualifier for the 2008 Olympic Games Selection Trials and four other National Dressage Championships, is held annually at the Del Mar Horsepark in Del Mar, California, just north of San Diego. In its fifth year, the Dressage Affaire has quickly gained a reputation as a favored venue among Dressage competitors.
“Dressage Affaire has become very popular with riders of all levels, largely because of the near-perfect weather conditions in Southern California and the quality of the venue,” said Event Manager Kim Keenan. “At the same time, the competition has become popular with the public because people have a chance to see some of the best riders in the Country and they can learn about the sport in a relaxing, intimate setting that is close to the action.”
The Dressage Affaire will feature today’s most elite dressage riders, including Olympic riders Debbie McDonald, Guenter Seidel, Steffen Peters, Sue Blinks, Hilda Gurney, Leslie Reid, and World Games rider Leslie Morse.
Dressage is the ultimate achievement of harmony between horse and rider. Dressage, in its elegance, most closely resembles ball room dancing or figure skating. The horse exhibits the graceful and fluid exuberance of movements under saddle that it so easily expresses when running free. But in dressage, this beauty of movement actually results from years of training, respect and commitment between horse and rider.
The Dressage Affaire runs March 13-15, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Del Mar Horsepark east of I-5 off of Via De La Valle. Grandstand seating can be purchased at the show for $10 per day or $20 for the weekend. Kids under 16 are free. Box seating is $100 per person for the entire weekend. Boxes are front row and include snacks, 2 bottles of wine daily as well as a Champagne Brunch on Saturday during the popular Freestyle Competitions to music.
