4-Way Tie For Lead in NRCHA Stakes Non Pro Preliminary Composite
The 2008 National Reined Cow Horse Association Stakes Non Pro preliminaries continued with the rein work Friday, March 28. The rein work has been described as the dressage of the western world, with exhibitors completing exciting maneuvers, including fast spins, lead changes, and sliding stops.
The NRCHA’s only Million Dollar Non Pro Rider, Anne Reynolds, rode Very Smart Flo Jo to a score of 220 – besting the closest contestant by three points! Reynolds owns both of Very Smart Flo Jo’s parents; her sire, Very Smart Remedy and dam, Teena Cash Flo. Jon Roeser rode Very Smart Remedy to win the World’s Greatest Horseman contest, and is also a 2-time NRCHA Open Derby Champion.
Reynolds and Very Smart Flo Jo’s high score also tied them for the lead in the Non Pro composite with a 432.
Intermediate Non Pro division rein work winner with a score of 215, Carol Roberts, of Ojai, California, is also tied for the Non Pro composite lead, although she claims the Intermediate Non Pro composite by herself. Her partner was Ill Be A Super Star, by Ill Be Smart and out of Gay Starlight.
Carmen Buckingham, Bruneau, Idaho, on Hesa Quien Sabe, and Laurie Ward, Kingsburg, California, riding Kiss Me A Little, are also tied for the Non Pro composite lead. Hesa Quien Sabe is by Mr Quien Sabe 416 and out of Monta Lil Sugar. Kiss Me A Little is by Smart Little Pepinic and out of Kiss Me Mister.
Samantha Etsell, of Arlington, Washington, rode Dulces All That Jazz to a score of 211.5 to win the Amateur division rein work. Dulces All That Jazz is by Dulces Smart Lena and out of Starlight And Jazz.
For the Amateur composite, Nicole Petty holds a 2-point lead with Nu Spark Plug. The pair has a composite score of 416.5. Nu Spark Plug is by Shiners Buenonic and out of Dots Nu Cash.
The preliminary competition not only qualifies the nine Non Pro and five Intermediate Non Pro riders who will return to the clean-slate finals Sunday, March 30, but also decides the 2008 NRCHA Stakes Amateur Champion. The title garners a Gist Custom Buckle, a C.R. Morison trophy, and a C.R. Morrison commemorative medallion, along with a check for $1,605.
