Who's Who!
Jacqueline Lubrano and Calito 7 notched their first win together in the USEF Platinum Performance Section A at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival presented by Zimmerman Advertising Friday.
The field of 25 was narrowed to 20 riders after the flat phase to perform over fences. Lubrano,16 of Glenmoore, Penn. and her 10-year-old bay gelding, Calito 7, proved to have the most accurate performance with their blue ribbon finish. Lubrano rides with trainer Stacia Madden of Colts Neck, N.J.
Lubrano has had six wins in the big equitation classes this season. All of her previous wins have been aboard her other mount, 10-year- old black gelding, LB Cartenoir. Friday was the first big equitation win for Lubrano on Calito 7.
Lubrano bought Calito 7 in July, 2007 and the pair placed sixth in the Medal Finals last year. The gelding had a late start this circuit due to a bout of shipping fever. Week 4 was his first competition.
"The course today was really good for him because it was very open and he has a big stride," Jacqueline said. "I feel like it all clicked today; it was a perfect course. He is so scopey and rangy that it can be difficult to keep him packaged. He is really fun to ride and careful with an awesome jump."
Second place went to Victoria Birdsall, 15, of Topsfield, Mass. and 11-year-old bay gelding, Baheera. Birdsall is a student of Andre Dignelli's. This circuit Birdsall has won over nine big equitation classes on Baheera and the bay mare, Cheyenne.
The yellow ribbon in section A was awarded to Jessica Springsteen, 15, also of Colts Neck and the 10-year-old chestnut gelding Papillon 136. Springsteen is also a student of Stacia Madden.
The rest of the results for section A were:
