What makes a Marchador a Marchador?
The Mangalarga Marchador horse is the National Horse of Brazil, a 200-year-old Iberian Breed that is known for its versatility and easy “ Marcha” gait and calm disposition. Much of the quality and consistency in the breed is due to the inspection process where only horses that meet the standards are allowed to breed.
The USMMA, the official registry of the Mangalarga Marchador Horse in the U.S., is sponsoring two clinics in Montana, May 24 and 25, which will focus upon the Brazilian inspection process and standards for the Mangalarga Marchador horses: conformation, gait and temperament.

Brazilian Inspector Dr. Getulio Tadeu Vieira of the ABCCMM, the Brazilian Registry of the Mangalarga Marchador horse, will be officiating at the Boulder and Hamilton Montana clinics where he will be examine, measure and evaluate young Marchador horses to see if they are qualified for the Brazilian Horse Registry.
If the US-born Marchador horses pass their examination, they are then branded with the ABCCMM Marchador brand, a horseshoe with an M in the middle. This is the official mark of the ABCCMM, trademarked in Brazil and the USA. The Marchador horses can then be dual registered with the ABCCMM.

Dr. Getulio Tadeu Vieira will also be training two U.S. veterinarians Doctors Tia Nelson of Helena, Montana and Hugh Rogers of Whitefish Montana apprenticing to learn the Marchador inspection process. Nelson and Rogers traveled to Brazil in the spring of 2007 to begin their coursework, but also need to complete several weeks in the field to become qualified as ABCCMM inspectors.
