Who's Who!
For the second time, Olympian Lisa Wilcox and the big bold chestnut mare, Passionelle, won the Sho Clothes engraved silver top whip in the FEI Prix St. Georges held at the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge III last weekend. Betsy Rebar Sell, co-owner of Sho Clothes, Wellington’s dressage boutique, was happy to present the custom-made engraved whip to Wilcox again for posting a winning score of 66.500% at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center.
Owner, Gigi Cunliffe, was equally thrilled to have her Dutch mare win the Sho Clothes Prix St. Georges Award a second time. Wilcox who competed on the United States Equestrian Team and won the team bronze medal in dressage at the 2006 Olympics in Athens, was delighted as Passionelle responded to everything she asked of the mare. “I like showing at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center,” she said. “And now I have a Sho Clothes whip for both hands,” she added with a laugh.
Not that she needs one for Passionelle, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood out of Jazz, who has steadily improved under Wilcox’s training. “She is smart and learns very quickly,” Wilcox assured us. After showing successfully at fourth level competition throughout the 2007 winter season, Passionelle’s progression to the upper ranks of dressage was inevitable. The lively big mare seems to like her job.
Nipping at Wilcox’s heels, Rick Silvia, riding his stunning black stallion, Starlight, posted a score of 65.000%. Starlight swept top honors for a breeding stallion at the United States Dressage Federation’s Annual Awards banquet in 2007. The 8-year-old Oldenburg stallion was also awarded the USDF All Breeds Dressage Sport Horse Breeding “Horse of the Year.” Silvia had Starlight in training with Wilcox when she first relocated to the Unites States. He gave Wilcox a big congratulatory hug after the class.
This handsome and much sought after award whip represents the commitment both Michele Hunt and her partner Betsy Rebar Sell, co-owners of the Sho Clothes Dressage boutique, have made to the dressage community through the years. The smart looking “logo” whip Sho Clothes awards to high-score performances has become a coveted favorite among riders.
Winners include Michelle Gibson, Kristy Lund, Janne Rumbough, Mindy Elgart, Jane Springer, Shannon Dueck and Lisa Wilcox, twice. Their photos will be on display on the Wall of Fame for the 2008 season at their Sho Room on Fairlane Farms Road, Wellington, Florida.
