NCHA Western National Championships coming up
With record entries, the 2007 Wayne Hodges Trailers * Outlaw Conversions NCHA Western National Championships opens tomorrow and runs through May 11 in Ogden, Utah. For the first time this year, there will be a live webcast of the Western Nationals. You can keep up with the news from the show in the Daily Chatter newsletter and listen to NCHA Cutting Edge News with Tom Holt, plus read Tom's Tidbits.

Besides the cutting action, there will be a youth party May 2, the youth grand entry May 3, team roping on May 6, a party hosted by Buffalo Ranch on May 8 and a party hosted by the Pacific Coast CHA on May 9.

First NCHA show commemorated
The American Quarter Horse Association unveiled its 30th historical marker in Dublin, Texas this month in honor of the first show held by the National Cutting Horse Association back in 1946. Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst was on hand along with AQHA and NCHA officials for the special occasion. Watch the video.

Orren Mixer, 1920-2008
Renowned equine artist Orren Mixer died April 29 after delivering a painting of all-time leading cutting broodmare Royal Blue Boon.

Cutters on TV
Don't miss NCHA Rode to the Winner's Circle on RFD-TV this week, Saturday at 12:30 a.m. and Sunday at 11:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. Central. This week, 4-year-old action from the Tunica Futurity is featured.

Convention around the corner
The 2008 NCHA Convention will be held June 20-22 at the Hilton DFW Lakes Conference Center, near the Dallas/Fort Worth Aiport.

Shynia Randles Memorial Fund
A memorial fund has been set up to defray funeral and medical expenses for 13-year-old NYCHA member Shynia Randles of Syracuse, Kansas, who passed away April 6. Contributions can be made to the Shynia Randles Memorial Fund, c/o Kris Davis, PO Box 290, Holcomb, KS 67851.

2008 NCHA Cutting Academy Grass Roots Clinics scheduled
Four NCHA Cutting Academy clinics are planned for 2008. The series of grass roots clinics are designed to increase the working knowledge of NCHA rules and improve showmanship in the arena.

* Session I of the Cutting Academy includes segments on understanding rules, equine nutrition plus information on membership, amateur and non-pro status and more. The cost, which includes a light breakfast and lunch, is just $25 at the door.
* Session II features live work critiques with some of the industry's leading experts. Cost for Session II is $150, with prepayment required.

Here's a schedule for the upcoming clinics, sponsored by Purina Mills:

* September 19, Clarksville, Arkansas, featuring NCHA Director of Judges Russell McCord on "Understanding Rules and Judging," plus live works insights from a leading trainer in our industry.

Buffalo Ranch supports NYCHA with stallion fees
S.David Plummer’s Buffalo Ranch is helping the NYCHA by lots and lots -- Lots Of Acres, that is. For the 2008 breeding season, Buffalo Ranch will donate 100% of Lots Of Acres’ breeding fees to the NYCHA scholarship fund. All breeding fees from outside mares will be earmarked for youth scholarships, with a minimum guaranteed donation of $50,000 per year.

"We are extremely excited to have Buffalo Ranch's support of the youth scholarship program," said NCHA Youth Director Danette McGuire. "Their generous donation will enable us to help even more youth members as they enter college and continue their educations."

Lots Of Acres is standing the 2008 season at Buffalo Ranch in Farmington, Utah. The Bob Acre Doc son was a finalist at the 2002 NCHA Open Futurity, and has lifetime earnings of $57,269. His first foals arrived in 2006.

Scholarship Cutting entries due
Entries are now being accepted for the 2008 Buffalo Ranch NYCHA Scholarship Cutting to be held July 14-18, 2008 in Fort Worth, Texas. More than $28,000 in college scholarships will be awarded in the Junior and Senior Youth classes. The five-day event will also include the annual NYCHA Convention featuring the NYCHA awards banquet, family fun night and the general membership meeting. Entries are due by June 13, 2008.

NYCHA Regional 1 Youth Scholarship Cutting Needs Your Support!
A $10,000 NYCHA Scholarship Cutting is scheduled to held on August 9th& 10th at Four Seasons Arena, Great Falls, Montana before the Big Sky Aged Event. In order to raise the $10,000, we must have donations of $8000 and the NCHA will contribute $2000. We need your tax free donation to support our Youth so they may have the opportunity to win scholarship money for post high school education. This is totally tax free contribution!
