Rodeos
The second weekend in June means many things to many people, but to those on the committee for the annual Marion Rodeo it means rodeo time!
Those who attended the recent Greensboro Rodeo had a chance to get a sneak peak of what the championship stock of the 3-R Rodeo are capable of - no qualified bull rides during two performances!
This year the Marion Rodeo Committee--Robert and Jennifer Hoggle and John and Nancy Mooney--are planning many exciting activities for contestants as well as spectators and plan to have something for everyone to enjoy.
Each year the Marion Rodeo is a bigger and better event and continues to grow in popularity. People who attend yearly plan ahead and bring friends.
“I never thought the rodeo would go on this long. I didn’t realize that the community would enjoy it this much," said committee member Nancy Mooney.
Part of what makes the Marion Rodeo such an exciting event is the participation events for spectators: the "mutton bustin'" for the little people and the "Little Wrangler" presentation where everyone gets a chance to participate in a Mardi Gras style parade, complete with beads thrown from the official Dodge rodeo truck.
Of course traditional rodeo events like barrel racing, bareback-bronco riding, team and breakaway calf roping, steer wrestling and everyone's favorite, bull riding, will have contestants from all over the southeast.
Traditionally the rodeo committee selects an organization to benefit from the rodeo. This year's proceeds will be given to the recreational programs at the Perry County Nursing Home and Southland Nursing Home, both in Marion.
Be sure to mark your calendars for June 13-14 when the gates of the Ralph Eagle Memorial Arena will open at 6 p.m. Children’s events begin at 7 p.m. and the main events at 8 p.m.
