APHA raises $18,000 for St. Jude's
More than 130 riders "Saddled Up for St. Jude" for a ride sponsored by APHA and Benbrook Stables on May 3 in Benbrook, Texas. More than $18,000 was raised through donations, as well as silent and live auctions. Nearly 60 businesses made donations of money and auction items to help the cause.
Fort Worth Star-Telegram Vice President and columnist Bob Ray Sanders served as honorary trail boss of the ride, along with Texas State Representative Dan Barrett and APHA President-elect John Corbin. Kevin Hardcastle, president of the Oklahoma Paint Horse Club, donated $2,000 from his club.

APHA Registration and transfer discounts still available
The newest benefit to joining and becoming an active member of the American Paint Horse Association is to save money. For a limited time, APHA is offering members significant savings on transactions through the Registration Incentive program.
Current Fees 2YO 3YO+ Registration Incentive Rate
Regular Registry $250 $500 $100 ($150 / $400 svgs)
Solid Paint-Bred $50 $100 $50 ($50 svgs)
Registering Older Horses
The incentive allows current owners with multiple unrecorded transfers of a registered Paint Horse to update ownership into their name for only one $15 transfer fee per horse, and is available for both Regular Registry and Solid Paint-Breds. APHA encourages owners to take advantage of the opportunity to register older Paint Horses at a greatly reduced rate and save up to $400.
Discounts are also being offered on multiple transfers, while a number of certificate corrections are being offered at no charge.

Colorful twins make their debut at Charlie Daniels’ Twin Pines Ranch
After devoting more than 25 years to raising quality Paints and advancing the American Paint Horse breed, country-rock legend Charlie Daniels recently received the prize of a lifetime at his Twin Pines Ranch—a set of healthy, twin Paint fillies.
The now spunky and vivacious twins, sired by ranch stallion HLF Smokin Ace and out of Ms Paseos County AQHA, were born in the fields of the Lebanon, Tenn., ranch during the morning hours of April 23.
While it is unusual for a mare to give birth to twins and even more rare for both foals to be healthy, the twins known as “Okie” and “Rose” around the ranch seem to be like any normal young Paints. The health and vitality of the foals can be attributed to Twin Pine’s Ranch Manager Thurman Mullins, who has been caring for them around the clock. When the twin Paints were first born, Mullins, like any dedicated horse owner, was concerned that they would be weak and unhealthy.
“We were real tickled when we first realized we had twin Paint foals,” said Mullins. “Then all the negatives I’ve heard about twin foals started jumping around in my head, but so far we have been very blessed.”

Get involved with Paint World Games
As 2008 is an Olympic year, it is especially fitting that it also marks the third international Youth competition, the Paint World Games. This competition, to be held Thursday, June 26 and sponsored by Purina Mills, will feature Youth representing their country in four divisions: trail, showmanship, horsemanship and reining.
Teams will be assigned horses at the show and have a limited, supervised amount of time to work with their horses before competition begins.
This program runs entirely off of donations from generous APHA members and sponsors. If you would like to get involved in a worthwhile program that fosters good international relations at the Youth level, please let us know. Providing horses for the competition, donating money and offering free farm tours for the visiting teams are all ways to become involved.
For more information, visit aphaworldshow.com, or contact the Director of Youth Activities at (817) 834-2742, extension 248, or via e-mail.

Stacy Westfall Clinic!
The APHA World Championship Show is proud to announce that this year’s Educational Seminar will feature Stacy Westfall and is presented by SmartPak. An accomplished horsewoman, trainer and competitor, Stacy has uncovered ways to communicate with your horse that make the reins unnecessary.
Her goal is to have the most clear communication possible with the horse. Having won NRHA and AQHA Freestyle Reining Championships bareback and bridleless, it was no shock when Stacy went on to win the prestigious Road to the Horse competition.
If you want to learn how to “think like a horse” in order to better communicate with your horse for better overall results, then join us on Saturday, June 28th at 2:00 PM at the Watt Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The event is free, so arrive early for the best seats!

Filly Addition!
Moore 6-J Paint Horses of Huntsville, Texas, has offered to upgrade its filly donation to now include Gay Bars Christi, whose trainability and talent are superb. The Moores, outstanding supporters of AjPHA, are donating a yearling filly for the fifth consecutive year.
Gay Bars Christi will be presented to her new owner July 5, the final night of the World Championship Paint Horse Show, in Fort Worth, Texas. Donations for a chance to win the filly are only $10 and can be made on-line at aphfoundation.com. Tickets will also be available during the World Show and from AjPHA members.
The pedigree of a champion
The newly-offered sorrel tobiano yearling filly has the pedigree of a true champion. Her sire, Mr Gay Bar Freckles, has proven himself as a standout in the reining pen. Mr Gay Bar Freckles placed in the Top 5 once and the Top 10 twice at the World Championship Paint Horse Show in reining. Sold in 2006, he made his way to Sweden where he was shown in Amateur Reining at the European Championships, winning Reserve Champion.
The filly’s championship pedigree doesn’t stop there. Her grandsire, Gay Bar Olena, is an APHA World and Reserve Champion reining horse. Her pedigree also extends back to include APHA World Champion and NCHA Money earner Delta Olena. While reining seems to be dominate in her pedigree, Gay Bar Christi’s maternal grandsire, Nu Flyer, earned an APHA Reserve World Championship title in tie-down roping.
Donations for a chance to win the filly are only $10 and can be made on-line at aphfoundation.org. You can also see her in action in a short video.

Fire prevention, farm safety podcasts available
Safety is a year-round business, but it becomes a top priority in the spring as farm owners and managers get more active in their stables and fields.
To help remind horse owners of basic safety principles, the Equine Science Center at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, has posted two new podcasts on iTunes: "Fire Prevention on a Farm" and "Farm Safety Recommendations."
"Fire Prevention on a Farm" runs for just under eight minutes, while "Farm Safety Recommendations" lasts eight and a half minutes. They are available for listening or downloading on the Rutgers podcast site at iTunes.Rutgers.edu and via a link on the home page of the Equine Science Center Web site, ESC.Rutgers.edu.
