Rodeos
Founded in 1985 as a non-profit organization, The Gabriel Foundation is comprised of business and community leaders in the East San Gabriel Valley area. Though its membership and volunteer network have grown, its goal has not changed: to raise funds for organizations that provide services to mentally challenged, physically handicapped, abused, and disadvantaged youth in local communities.
The Foundation’s primary fund-raiser is the Industry Hills Pro Rodeo, which takes place Oct. 11 and 12, at the Industry Hills Expo Center. The Foundation has raised and donated more than $1,478,000 during the rodeo's first 22 years. That includes $165,000 proceeds from the 2007 Industry Hills Pro Rodeo.
Since 1986, the Foundation has donated more than $577,600 to Delhaven Community Center in La Puente, Calif. Delhaven’s programs serve more than 12,000 individuals a month and includes after-school recreation Monday through Friday at Delhaven as well as at Baldwin, California and Workman elementary schools. Children with special needs - emotional and/or behavioral difficulties - receive one-on-one tutoring or homework assistance. Leadership training programs are available for junior high students through college-age young adults at no cost. Delhaven Summer Campership grants provide camping experiences to more than 2,700 children age 5 to 14.
In addition, Delhaven offers activities for the mentally challenged population, including a state-licensed day-care facility, traveling club, square dancing, sports programs and Weekend Roundups.
The Gabriel Foundation also provides funds – more than $552,000 during the past two decades – for the Industry Sheriff Station’s Youth Activities League that offers youth sports in scuba diving, tennis, fencing, baseball, basketball, flag football, cheerleading, as well as Camp C.O.U.R.A.G.E. (Community Operation and United Resistance Against Gang Evils) each summer.
The Gabriel Foundation has donated more than $348,000 to a variety of other charities and organizations that sponsor special programs aiding disadvantaged youth.
