The National Day of the Cowboy celebration was a BIG hit! First we started at Gold Canyon Golf Resort on Friday 25th, for all-day fun, food, golf, silent auction, raffle prizes, and activities. Then Saturday, we joined in on the excitement at the historic Goldfield Ghost Town where we took a stroll back in time through the authentic western town.
Even with our economic times being tight this year, our local citizens continue to be generous with their time and purses. In preparation for THE NATIONAL DAY OF THE COWBOY, I had been asking as your 2008 Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo Queen for donations that can be used as raffle prizes as well as the silent auction that was held at Gold Canyon Golf Resort on Friday, July 25th.
One such generous donor was Sara Bilbrey and Family of Queen Creek, granddaughter of Carol Halpin of AJ. Sara’s family took the time and their money to create more than 12 beautiful large gift baskets that will be auctioned or raffled off at the event. Being an AJ Mounted Ranger herself, Carol knows all about volunteering for our local community in which any money raised is given back to the youth of Apache Junction. The Lost Dutchman Day Rodeo Queens would like to thank Sara and her family for their thoughtfulness and generosity for this national event. Not to be forgotten are the following local merchants whom have so generously donated as well: Anheuser Bush, Cowboy Magic, Desert Rose/Carstar, Feed Bag Restaurant, Gold Canyon Golf Resort, Jerry’s Automotive in Mesa and Brad from Old West Iron Art. What a great turn out we had for the THE NATIONAL DAY OF THE COWBOY, and can’t wait to participate next year!
