Bill Freeman, 1950-2008
NCHA Hall of Fame rider Bill Freeman passed away Tuesday afternoon, following a brief illness. Freeman's name is intertwined in cutting horse history with Smart Little Lena, the horse he rode to become the sport's first Triple Crown winner, and which went on to be cutting's all-time leading sire. With NCHA career earnings of more than $4.5 million, Freeman was the sport's all-time leading Open money earner.
Services for Freeman will be held in Will Rogers Coliseum at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to NCHA Charities Foundation, 260 Bailey Ave., Fort Worth, TX 7610 or the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006.
