World Show wrapup
WS recapDubbed as "the largest Paint Horse Show on earth," the APHA World Championship Paint Horse Show made its two-week run at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, June 21 through July 5. The event lived up to its name as it saw 1,289 Paint Horses and 4,021 entries from across the world compete in a record 187 events—164 of which were World Championship classes.
While people from the state of Texas brought the highest number of Paints to the event, others traveled nearly 9,500 miles to attend. Paint Horses and exhibitors from 45 states, Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Sweden and The Netherlands made the trek in hopes of returning home as a World Champion.
Over the course of the two weeks, World Show welcomied 226 Novice Youth entries; 1,178 Youth; 1,377 Amateur and Novice Amateur; 1,063 Open; 152 Futurity and 25 specialty class entries—all competing for more than $400,000 in cash and prizes.
World Show highlights
• For the first time in history, APHA introduced Novice Youth events to the World Show line-up.
• The Youth World Games returned to the 2008 event. This year Youth from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden and the United States competed. Team Germany rode away with the gold.
• Alisa Bernhard and Fleetstreet Max jumped their way to World Show history. The talented duo earned five World Championships this year, resulting in 21 lifetime World Championships and new world record.

Fall Championship Show Update
World Championship Classes
APHA is looking forward to the addition of the world-class fall specialty show for American Paint Horses. The Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, will be home to the November 6 – 15, 2008 show. In addition to the World Championship classes, there will be many added-money classes, sweepstakes and jackpot classes offered at the Fall Championship Show.
The 2008 Fall Championship Show schedule is now available on-line at aphafallchampionship.com
The Fall Championship Show Premium Book has been mailed to past World Show and Paint Vegas participants and is now available upon request or on-line.
Please note, there have been changes to the schedule printed in the Premium Book.
The 3-& 4-Year-Old Western Pleasure Slot class has been moved to Thursday, November 6, and the 3-Year-Old Western Pleasure Challenge has moved to Friday, November 7. These changes were made to allow the slot horses to compete in the Challenge class.
Also, the definition for the Barrel Racing limited division was inadvertently left out of the Premium Book. It is as follows:
• Limited Open Barrel Racing—Exhibitors are ineligible to show in this division if they have placed first (overall champion) once or more in Open APHA or AQHA World Show or Open Paint Vegas Barrel Racing in the past three years (2006, 2007, 2008). In addition, all exhibitors whose lifetime earnings in Barrel Racing exceeds $10,000 per NBHA records are ineligible to compete in the limited division.

Gay Bars ChristiPhilanthropy at its finest helps American Paint Horse Foundation Youth Programs
The Winner
On July 5, 2008, The American Paint Horse Foundation drew the winning ticket for Paint filly Gay Bars Christi. The winning ticket was No. 8525, held by Elka Daroga of Bayside, Wisconsin. Congratulations to Elka and thank you to everyone who donated for a chance to take home the filly.
The Spirit of Giving
In a generous and philanthropic show of support for the Foundation and its initiatives to improve our world through the “Power of Paint Horses,” the Darogas, in-turn, donated the filly to the Foundation, with the expressed wish of helping the organization raise more funds for its worthy causes.
“The organization has been tremendous,” Norrie Daroga said of the Foundation, which is driven to help youth through scholarships and support of the American Junior Paint Horse Association (AjPHA). His daughter, Elka, is a multiple APHA World Champion and Reserve World Champion.
“We’ve been blessed through our involvement, and we wanted to donate the filly back so even more money could be raised. It’s always been our philosophy that if you believe in a charity, and you win something, it’s appropriate to donate it back so you can support it more.”
Gay Bars Christi, who has quickly proven to be a talented young filly, was originally donated by Floyd and Maryann Moore, of the legendary 6-J Paint Horses in Huntsville, Texas, to support the Foundation’s youth leadership and scholarship programs. The Moores have donated fillies to the Foundation for the past five years and are thrilled that this year’s offering has been a great fundraising success that is continuing.
The Future
Thanks to the generosity of Phil and Susan Drawdy of C.S. Acres in Fort Pierce, Florida, who are sponsoring the filly’s boarding and training, she will continue to progress under the talents of trainer Amy Andresen, from the Barn at Cedar Hill, in Cedar Hill Texas.
Current Plans are to make Gay Bars Christi available at auction during the APHA Fall Championship Show Select Sale on November 8 in Fort Worth. Watch this site for exciting details as plans progress.
Visit aphfoundation.org to see a short video of this outstanding filly.
