Courageously Overcoming A 5th Place Finish In The First Heat, Celebrity Secret
"Easily Blows By" Dewey And Crazed To Force A Two Horse Race-Off In A Third Heat

Race Fans Claim This To Be The Best Futurity Competition In Nearly 50 Years

Celebrity Secret won the 12th race of the 116th Kentucky Futurity by overcoming Deweycheatumnhowe, his racing nemesis, in the final leg of the Trotting Triple Crown, at The Red Mile on Saturday, October 4.

Following Deweycheatumnhowe’s win in the ninth race and Celebrity Secret’s win in the 12th race the field was set for a showdown in the 15th and final race of the day. With just hairs separating the winner at the finish line, Deweycheatumnhowe crossed the plane first with Celebrity Secret the smallest of margins behind. The suspenseful race brought fans at The Red Mile to their feet while cheering wildly at the hard-fought finish of the 116th Kentucky Futurity.

"From where I was standing I was sure we won and, until I reviewed the win photo, I thought we had him. This should prove to the world that Celebrity Secret is a tremendous competitor. It's a lot to ask any horse to beat Dewey at any time because that horse has supernatural abilities. It brought tears to my eyes to watch Secret's heroic effort attempt to do it twice in one day. Secret is a tremendous competitor that gives us 100% every time out," said Sam Stathis, owner of Celebrity Farms. “He left his heart on the track today and there is no shame in being second seven times to a horse with Dewey's abilities. His effort in the final heat will stay in my heart as much as his victory in the second heat. We are very proud of Celebrity Secret, Staffan Lind his trainer and Mari Lind his caretaker. What do we know? I guess we’ll just have to wait until the Breeders Crown on November 29 at the Meadowlands.”

Of the 102 eligible foals of 2005 for the 116th Kentucky Futurity, with Celebrity Secret, other standouts included Deweycheatumnhowe, Crazed, and Clerk Magistrate.

In 21 career starts Celebrity Secret has now won five races and placed second or third in 12 races. When challenged by Deweycheatumnhowe, Celebrity Secret has come in second place seven times, most recently in this year’s 116th Kentucky Futurity, where his last quarter of the third heat was timed at a remarkable 26.2 seconds, and placed fourth at The Hambletonian. Staffan Lind trains Celebrity Secret, a son of Yankee Glide, at Celebrity Farms in Goshen, N.Y.

Celebrity Farms will donate a percentage of its proceed from all its horses that raced in the 116th Kentucky Futurity to The Chris Vasiliou Memorial Foundation. An additional goal for Celebrity Farms throughout the 116th Kentucky Futurity has been to raise awareness and funds for The Chris Vasiliou Memorial Foundation. Celebrity Farms has donated a percentage of proceed from all horses racing since the charitable announcement was made at The Hambletonian press conference following the untimely passing of 14-year-old Chris Vasiliou from Vasculitis in July.

Celebrity Farms was quick to respond to the needs of the Vasiliou family and hopes to provide assistance to others stricken with the disease. For more information regarding The Chris Vasiliou Memorial Foundation, to make a donation or to volunteer, please contact The Chris Vasiliou Memorial Foundation, c/o Polo Electric Corp, 497 Canal Street, New York NY 10013-1311, call (212) 627-8220 or visit celebrityfarms.com.
