Marco Bernal proved the third time is a charm when his impeccable turnout, polished horse and “dressed for success” look helped him win his third Vespucci halter during the jog presentation at the Wellington Classic Spring Challenge CDI. It was Bernal’s third time to win Best Turned Out Male during the jog presentation, making him the proud owner of three Vespucci halters donated by The Paddock Saddlery and World Equestrian Brands.
Bernal was ecstatic to be back in the winner’s circle again, capturing the title with his stunning Trakehner stallion Halbgott. “I really love these halters and I am so thankful to The Paddock Saddlery and World Equestrian Brands for being sponsors. This is really fun!” Bernal said.
The title of Best Turned Out Female went to first time winner Hannah Holland Shook and her handsome bay KWPN gelding Cape Town. Shook’s burnt orange quilted jacket accented with a silk scarf was perfect and practical for the chilly afternoon jog. Shook may have gotten a few pointers from her coach – none other than George Williams, Winner of the jog presentation and Vespucci halter the week before at the Exquis World Dressage Masters competition. Williams was the first to steal the victory from Bernal this season, perhaps the reason Bernal rose to the challenge at the Wellington Classic Spring Challenge show and pulled out all the stops to keep his collection of fine Vespucci halters growing.
Lisa Gorretta, owner of The Paddock Saddlery, said she is enjoying the effort and the good-spirited rivalry among the riders. "I like co- sponsoring the jog as it rewards those who maintain the long-standing traditions of the sport. It also recognizes the grooms and team behind the scenes,” she said.
Gorretta knows a lot about recognizing the people who make a difference in dressage behind the scenes. As an active 20-year volunteer, Gorretta has served the USDF on local, regional and national levels and currently serves on the USEF Dressage Committee. The Paddock Saddlery is dedicated to supporting the dressage community and also sponsors the extensive USDF Volunteer of the Year program.
Gorretta said she enjoys partnering with World Equestrian Brands for the jog presentations. The Paddock Saddlery carries several of the World Equestrian Brand’s lines including Vespucci halters, bridles and Amerigo saddles.
The Paddock Saddlery caters to the needs of English riders, from tack and clothing to saddle fitting. The Paddock Saddlery merged with A’Dashi, a popular dressage fashion boutique, and together they provide equestrians with the finest in couture and functional riding wear.
