Results of the 2008 show-year placed Slate River Ranch (SRR) in two elite groups – Top Cutting Horse Breeder and Top Cutting Horse Owner. This is the very first time that both titles were earned by a single recipient in a single year. The official statistics are compiled by Equi-Stats, a division of Cowboy Publishing Group.

Located in Weatherford, Texas, SRR bred horses that earned $862,804 and owned horses that earned $663,195 in 2008. Glade Knight, SRR-owner, and John Mitchell, head trainer, started working together in 1997 and since that time have forged an extraordinary owner-trainer friendship that has led the way for a very successful cutting-horse breeding and training program.

Slate River Ranch has two locations, one in Buckingham, Virginia (since the late 1970s) and a second in Weatherford, Texas (since 1997). The horses have been successfully competing at the highest possible levels for many years. Luxury accommodations and spacious equine facilities make both humans and horses comfortable and relaxed in their peaceful settings.

Currently, Slate River Ranch is breeding three stallions including Playdox ($6,000), Bobs Freckle ($3,000) and That Sly Cat ($3,000), with chute fees included. Playdox is Equi-Stat’s 2008 Leading Cutting Horse Sire #13, with the fourth highest average per foal at $13,471. With offspring earning more than $1.7 million, Playdox is by Freckles Playboy, the #2 All-Time Cutting Sire and All-Time Leading Reined Cowhorse Sire, siring the earners of more than $26 million. Bobs Freckle, with lifetime earnings of $62,952, is by Bob Acre Doc, a two-time NCHA World Champion and the Equi-Stat #10 All-Time Leading Cutting Sire, siring the earners of more than $7.7 million. That Sly Cat, with lifetime earnings of $104,793, is by High Brow Cat, the Equi-Stat #1 Leading Cutting Sire for six consecutive years beginning in 2003, siring the earners of more than $32 million.
