APPALOOSA FILLY HAS “HOT” WINNING STREAK IN 2008 AND BEYOND

Not many 2-year-old horses can boast having earned more than $50,000 in one year, but the Appaloosa filly One Hot Version earned her keep in 2008!

One Hot Version, also known as “Fergie,” kicked off her winning streak last June at the 61st National Appaloosa Show in Jackson, Miss., where the chestnut mare earned a National Champion title in the Open 2-year-old Snaffle Bit Western Pleasure under the guidance of Terry Thompson.

Later that summer Fergie competed in a slew of non-pro and open Western Pleasure classes at the 2008 Reichert Celebration in Tulsa, Okla. The Florida-bred Appaloosa led owner Stormi Guidry of Sweeny, Texas, to a first place win in Non-pro Limited 2-year-old Western Pleasure. Fergie also helped Stormi take second place in the Color Breed 2-year-old Non-pro Western Pleasure and the Color Breed 2-year-old Non-pro Limited Western Pleasure classes. Colt Andrews rode Fergie to the head of the lineup in the open competition. Fergie won first place in the Color Breed Limited 2-year-old Western Pleasure class, and then took third place in the Color Breed 2-year-old Open Western Pleasure class.

Fergie’s first handful of victories didn’t come without a price—the spirited filly managed to injure herself prior to both shows. “She tore her nose open at Appaloosa Nationals and had to have it sewn up,” Stormi said. “At Reichert Celebration, Fergie fell out of the trailer backing up. She seems to always injure herself in some way before she wins big at a show.”

With a number of wins to their name, the pair headed to Fort Worth, Texas, to compete in the Appaloosa Pleasure Horse Association’s Non-pro/Youth 5 & Under Western Pleasure Maturity at the 2008 World Championship Appaloosa Show. Stormi and Fergie left the show with the World Champion title.

Bolstered by the successful show season thus far, Stormi decided to pit Fergie against the best in Western Pleasure at the Just for Pleasure Futurity in Perry, Ga. Fergie, with Tim Zuidema aboard, took first place in Just For Pleasure’s 2-year-old Open Western Pleasure class and won $21,780! The blue ribbons didn’t stop there—Tim and Fergie also earned first place and $16,335 in the 2-year-old Color Western Pleasure class, and concluded the event with more than $38,000 in purse monies!

Fergie’s success in the western pleasure circuit comes as no surprise considering her parentage (Hot Chocolate Chip x Easter Chip). Hot Chocolate Chip was the 1996 World Champion in 3-year-old Snaffle Bit Western Pleasure. The following year, Hot Chocolate Chip earned the National Champion title for the same class. Throughout the 2001-2002 show seasons, Easter Chip excelled in Senior Western Pleasure, Western Pleasure, 18 & Under and a handful of other disciplines, and earned her fair share of first place wins as well.

The ApHC is proud to have such wonderful Appaloosa ambassadors representing the breed in open events, and looks forward to One Hot Version’s many successes in the future! To learn more about the ApHC and its events, visit www.appaloosa.com or call (208) 882-5578.
