APPALOOSAS RACE FOR MORE THAN $70,000 IN MARCH

Appaloosas raced for their piece of a $70,000-plus purse-money pie in March, and earned a sizeable slice of it! The following Appaloosas heated up the tracks:

Royal Blue Cash, proudly owned by Melannie Patton of Kiowa, Okla., earned the first win of the month in a 300-yard maiden race at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla. The 4-year-old gray filly completed the track in 16.145 seconds to win $5,770 of the $10,200 purse offered, bringing her lifetime earns to $8,249. The Oklahoma-bred Appaloosa (Royal Streakin, AQHA, x Cash Blues) is trained by Angie Jones of Stuart, Okla., and was bred by Kay and Kin Pirtle of Norman, Okla.

The following Appaloosas also competed in this race: Streakin Prince, Neds Diamond Domingo, Tequila Noches and Mr Bulls Eye.

Barrymore Easy (Barrymore, AQHA, x Cough Drop) followed with a win of her own in a 220-yard claiming race at the Los Alamitos race track in Los Alamitos, Calif. Dominating the Quarter Horse competition, Barrymore Easy completed the race in 11.924 seconds and won $2,750 of the $5,475 purse offered. The California-bred chestnut filly also competed in a 300-yard claiming race at the same track, and won the race in 15.549 seconds. She won $2,915, bringing her lifetime earnings to $14,035. Barrymore Easy is owned by Margarito Farias of Norco, Calif., trained by Jorge Farias and was bred by Barney E. Leard Jr. of Oakdale, Calif.

No other Appaloosas competed in either race.

Aw Union, an 8-year-old chestnut gelding, earned a hefty purse in a 400-yard maiden race at Will Rogers Downs. The Oklahoma-bred Appaloosa completed the track in 21.192 seconds to win $5,842 of the $9,350 purse offered. Barely two weeks later, Aw Union won a 550-yard allowance race at the same track, and earned $5,628 of the $9,500 offer purse, bringing his lifetime earnings to $13,330. Aw Union (Beat the Feet, JC, x Union Jet) is proudly owned by Mary L. Medley of Tulsa, Okla., trained by Michelle Hurdle and was bred by Dr. D. E. Billings of Mounds, Okla.

The following Appaloosas competed in the 400-yard maiden race: Now Skippy Doodle and Neds Diamond Domingo.

The following Appaloosas competed in the 550-yard allowance race: Streaknow, I Won For The Money and Last One.

Elida, a 3-year-old chestnut filly, earned $5,806 of a $9,860 purse offered in a 350-yard maiden race at Will Rogers Downs. The Oklahoma-bred Appaloosa completed the track in 18.253 seconds, bringing her lifetime earnings to $11,947. Elida (Apollo, JC, x Lil Bit Rare) is proudly owned and was bred by Don R. Sumter of Adair, Okla., and is trained by Jeff Tyer.

The following Appaloosas also competed in this race: Streakin Prince, Mia Cale Man, Midnight Deposit, Now Skippy Doodle, Neds Diamond Domingo and Charge On Royal War.

Katies Perks, a 2-year-old bay filly, ran to win in a 250-yard maiden race at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Oklahoma-bred Appaloosa completed her first race in 13.731 seconds to win $9,130 of the $16,000 purse offered. Katies Perks (Man With The Power x It’s Cash’s Perks) is proudly owned, trained and was bred by James M. Limbaugh of Sallisaw, Okla.

The following Appaloosas also competed in this race: Sheza Redheaded Okey, Still Da One and Oklahoma Rane.

Tincys Roll Of Cash, an 8-year-old bay gelding, had a strong showing in a 350-yard claiming race at Will Rogers Downs. The Oklahoma-bred Appaloosa completed the track in 18.669 seconds to earn $3,528 of the $6,420 offered purse, bringing his lifetime earnings to $54,988. Tincys Roll of Cash (Roll the Cash, AQHA, x Houston Bunny) is owned and trained by Angie J. Jones of Stuart, Okla., and was bred by Charles H. Cooper of Fort Gibson, Okla.

Appaloosa Lucky At Zbar also competed in this race.

Appaloosa Racing

Appaloosas have long been an integral part of one of America’s most popular spectator sports—horse racing. The Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) officially recognized the sport in 1962, beginning Appaloosa racing history with four races and 23 starters competing for $12,000 in total purses. In 2008, 186 Appaloosas competed in 399 races for $3.1 million in total purses. Racing fans can find Appaloosas crossing the finish line in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Washington and Wyoming.
