AzRHA Flagstaff “Tall Pines Summer Slide” Show a huge success!

If you missed the Tall Pines Reining Show in Flagstaff recently, you missed one of the best shows ever! Besides getting away to Northern Arizona, always a treat this time of year, it was a weekend of great reining, great people and lots of equine fun!

The youth kicked off the show on Thursday with their Slave Auction fundraiser, which raised over $600 for their 2010 Youth Grant Program. However, it wasn’t all that easy – the youth had to work a minimum of 3 hours for the person who bid the highest for them. We heard they had to clean stalls, wash horses, cook, and even entertain the young children! Besides raising money, it was a great time for everyone to get to know each other a little more. On Friday, the youth held a meeting to discuss upcoming fundraisers, clinics, and non-horse related get-togethers. They are currently planning a carwash on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the corner of Tatum & Dynamite from 8am to 1pm, so if you’re in the area, please stop by and support the AzRHA youth – donations accepted. And of course, you’ll drive away with a clean car!

On Saturday, the Annual Dog Races were held, consisting of a small dog race, a large dog race, and an old dog/handicapped dog race. As the dogs paraded one by one for the Calcutta-style auction, it was hard to tell who was more excited, the audience bidding or the dogs being auctioned. It was certainly a lot of fun and a big thanks should go to Caycee Cooper, who did a great job as auctioneer!

Besides being a little breezy (okay, there were some big wind gusts), the show went on and congratulations to our youth high point winners: Jordan Willette/Youth 14-18; Zach Beals/Youth 13 & Under; Grady Byrne/Youth 10 & Under; and Ryan Cull/Youth Rookie.

A big THANK YOU to our show sponsors, Sami Fine Jewelry who donated beautiful ¼ carat diamonds for “Sami’s Diamond Shootout” classes and SmartPak Equine for providing the Double D blankets with amazing club logo embroidery. Coming soon to the AzRHA website – you can see the full list of Flagstaff winners and prizes. Check it out, thank you to Shawn Martin for providing.
