Bison Ranch Livery Stable of Heber-Overgaard, AZ, and Windmill Feed of neighboring Clay Springs, got together to bring Bob Snook, a certified Richard Shrake trainer, to the Ranch for 3 separate clinics aimed at helping to develop more knowledgeable horse riders and handlers. We were able to view Part 1 and Part 2 of the June Clinic and were impressed by the progress made by the participants of all ages. Bob Snook had an easy going manner, backed up by many years of experience. He was able to bring home many important guide lines to the clinic participants.
The clinic opened with an introduction to tack and equipment. Each horse entered the arena tacked up and ready to go. Bob checked every horse and addressed the ‘right and wrong’ of each horse concerning the fit and application of each piece of equipment. It was an eye-opening experience for many of the riders in the clinic. The portion of the clinic devoted to ground handling, leading, backing, turning, etc. went very well. We were impressed with the quiet attitude of the horses after a couple of hours of leadline control work.
The next day, Sunday, we saw a further leap forward in ground work and riding quietly in close order circumstances. The number of horses n the arena at anytime averaged about 10, never any more than 12 . . a good number. Everyone had plenty of attention from the instructor.
There was a booth offering tack and supplies from Windmill Feeds. Lunch was provided by great high country caterers. The weather was perfect, with temps in the mid 70’s, sunshine and a light breeze.
The next Clinic will be devoted to cues and controls on July 11, with an advanced session on August 8th. For additional information, reservations, accommodations, etc. call Cheryl at 928-535-6786 or Nature at 928-739-4667.
We’ll be looking for you!!
