Arizona
June has been a busy month for AZqualityhorses.com.
First, we hosted a cow/horsemanship clinic at Northern Arizona Riding Stables in Flagstaff. This was fun for everyone, and it is so nice to get out of the heat of valley. All of the horse and rider combinations made major improvements in their riding skills and communication. The instructors, Bobby Dunn and Christina Carl made the riders do excercises that improved their communication with their horses without even realizing they were doing it. There was much laughter and hooting and hollering going on, and by the end of each day all of the horses and riders were worn out. It was so neat to see the difference in the riders and the horses from the beginning of the clinic to the end. We had one rider who had never really ridden before and by the end of the clinic was trotting and cantering with poise, balance, and control.
Next, we had kids camps at Dunn's arena. The kids had so much fun. The covered arena is such a nice benefit because the riders are able to be in the saddle for 4-5 hours every day. The kids got to learn how to play horse soccer, and got to practice gymkhana events like barrels, poles, and keyhole race. At noon every day the kids got to go into the restaurant and were able to purchase food or eat their own lunch and then participate in arts and crafts provided by a school teacher. They made lots of neat things to take home and show their parents. The last day of camp, the kids got to perform a show for their parents. The first week we did a drill team pattern to music. The kids and parents were all very pleased.
Next, was the Beat The Heat Horse Show at Northern Arizona Riding Stables on Sat. June 27th. The weather couldn't have been nicer, 75 degrees and sunny most of the day, as opposed to 115 in the valley. This was a fun event! The Extreme Trail Course was just amazing. It was a series of obstacles set through a natural trail course that tested even the best trail horses. The Car Wash Obstacle was very difficult, as was the water hazard that was set in between two steep hills. The winner of this class walked away with $88, a ribbon, and a beautiful trophy. The jumping classes were great, and the flat classes all went without a hitch. The kids enjoyed the gymkhana events and most of them walked away with ribbons and trophies. This show was very beginner friendly and the judges offered advice to all of the riders so they know what to work for the rest of the series. If you are new to showing, or just want to get out of the heat and enjoy a wonderful day with your family, come on out to our next shows. If you don't have a horse, AZqualityhorses.com will provide you with one. The next show dates are July 18, August 15, and Sept. 26. This is a series and the winner of each division will walk away with a buckle at an awards banquet that will be held after the last show on Sept. 26th. There are stalls available if you want to overnight your horses, and there are miles and miles of some of the nicest trails in the state right off of the property at Northern Arizona Riding Stables.
