APHA LogoNew member benefits getting great reviews
In September, APHA began offering members a new series of benefits including a free pharmacy card and a choice of four health and lifestyle discount plans and a suite of insurance products. Several APHA employees have already taken advantage of the discounts offered by this program and have been very satisfied with their discounts!
With the free pharmacy card, discounts range from 10% to 60% on most medications. With over 60,000 participating locations, including independent, national and regional chain pharmacies, there is one near you. You can also enjoy deep discounts and the convenience of mail order prescriptions.
In addition, four health & lifestyle discount plans are being offered to APHA members. Again, members will go on-line to sign up for a specialized discount package! Package prices include the free pharmacy card and are valid for one year from date of purchase. If you purchase one of these packages, your pharmacy card is automatically included.
Finally, this new program brings a simplified approach to buying and selling insurance—virtually eliminating headaches. Products include life, medical and supplemental insurance, as well as auto and homeowner insurance, and you can get a personalized quote for the type of insurance you need—minus the hassle!

Breeding/registration reminders
At the recent APHA convention, a new rule change that affects many APHA members—RG-070—was voted in. RG-070 changes the reference points used to determine a Paint Horse's registration status—reducing the amount of face and leg white necessary to qualify for the Regular Registry. Under the new rules, reference point one—which applies to face white—now consists of an imaginary line drawn from the base of the horse's ear to the outside corner of the eye continuing to the corner of the mouth. Reference point two is now an imaginary level line around the leg at the center of the horse's knee, and reference point three now consists of a level, imaginary line around the leg at the point of the hock.
In your holiday rush, don't forget the year-end deadline for foal registrations is December 31. Join the thousands of APHA members who take advantage of the easy APHA on-line registration service. If you own a digital camera and have Internet access, you can save time, postage and hassle when registering your Paint babies. For a primer on taking good registration photos, view this helpful article.
And finally—do not miss the upcoming November 30 deadline for your 2009 stallion breeding reports, and please note that the per mare fee went from $4 to $5. You can file your report on line from the comfort of your home by logging onto aphaonline.com. If you are filing the report through regular USPS, forms are available for downloading on our website at apha.com/forms or if you'd like us to mail you a form, please contact us at (817) 222-6423.

Membership CardsSend us your EVENT photos
Whoa! Since the Journal's request for photos for the Journal's new one-page section called "Painting the Town" in the last issue of this e-newsletter, Jeannie Putney's e-mail box has been overflowing. Sorry, we were not clear enough on the type of photos we need for this section of the Journal. These photos need to be from the same event, not individual photos from members. We appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and members who want to show off their individual photos of their Paints can upload those images to our our Facebook page. The requirements are simple—crisp, clear, well-composed shots of Paint Horse lovers and their horses at an event.
So send photos of a Paint event in your area—a show, club meeting, fun day or whatever by mail to Jeannie Putney, Paint Horse Journal, 2800 Meacham Blvd., Fort Worth, Texas 76137 or by e-mail. If e-mailing photos, make sure they are at least 4" x 6" and 300 dpi resolution. Small, low resolution, or blurry images will not be used. Please identify the event, people and Paints in the images.

Calling for photos for the 2011 APHA Calendar
Calendar Sample PagesAnd speaking of calendars—in late spring, we will be reviewing photos in preparation for the 2011 APHA Calendar and would like to expand the number taken by our members.
Let's face it, Texas does not really have four separate seasons, so we are in need of beautiful seasonal photos of gorgeous registered Paint Horses for the calendar. We will consider photos of individual horses as well as herds; mares and foals as well as foals by themselves. Please keep in mind that calendar photos, by nature, are beautiful renderings of the subject matter. We will be evaluating submitted images with a very critical eye, so do the same with your images before you submit any of them.
The guidelines are:
* If electronic, the photo must be of the highest resolution. If a photo, the print must be at least 8” x 10.”
* The orientation should be horizontal, rather than vertical (that's wide rather than tall).
* We want loud Paint horses only, no people in the photo.
* The horse or horses must in be good, clean, well-fed condition and be excellent examples of the American Paint Horse and in a picturesque location (no peeling fences, junky items or mud).
* The image must be well-exposed and very sharply focused.
Please submit your photos by March 1 to Laura Jesberg, APHA, 2800 Meacham Blvd., Fort Worth, Texas 76137. If you need to send an electronic image and it is larger than 2 mb, please use the Paint Horse Journal's easy FTP file upload site. Select “Laura Jesberg” from the drop down list in the “Attention” field and attach your photo or zip file. Please include a contact phone number or e-mail address, as well as the photographer, farm or ranch, city and state for each photo. Printed photos will not be returned.

The British Reining Championship Show held on September 19–20, provided a thrilling end to the UK Reining season with an American Paint Horse and stealing the show. The British Reining Open Championship was won by trainer Alan Payne and Lenas Diamond Rio, making it the first time that the title has been taken by any breed other than an American Quarter Horse. Lenas Diamond Rio and Alan were drawn first and rose to the challenge by carding not only a score that could not be beaten but also the joint highest combined score and the highest individual score of the whole show.
For thrilled owner, Annalisa Wallace, this provided the perfect end to an exceptional competition as not only did “Rio” and Alan become the 2009 British Reining Open Champions but earlier that same day the horse had placed second in the Green As Grass Championship Class with her riding. Annalisa was also awarded the year-end High Point Buckle in the Green As Grass category.
