The Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale started with a bang when the broodmare Dashin Follies was sold for $875,000. The sale, located in Oklahoma City, runs through Saturday. The first day sold three sessions.
The results for the first session at Heritage Place, according to data provided by the sale company, showed 84 horses sold, with 18 repurchases and 17 withdrawn. The horses brought $438,100, an average of $5,215 per head. The second session was the Michael Pohl herd reduction, and sold 31 horses with two repurchases and three withdrawn. The horses sold brought $1,374,800, an average of $44,348 per head. The third session sold 179 horses, with 18 repurchases and 17 withdrawn. The total sold was $1,715,400, an average of $9,583.
The day's totals were 296 horses sold, with 36 repurchases and 37 withdrawn. They sold for a total of $3,534,300. The first day's average rose 45 percent over last year, to $11,507. Removing the high seller, the average still rose 12 percent from last year. Repurchases dropped to 11 percent, down from 17 percent in 2009.
Coronita Cartel, a daughter of Dashin Follies by Corona Cartel, was the second-highest seller at $250,000. The 5-year-old mare was, like Dashin Follies, consigned by Oklahoma Stud for Michael Pohl and purchased by Tyler Graham, agent. She sold with an embryo by One Famous Eagle. The third-highest horse sold was Daze Like This, a 4-year-old mare consigned by Double Bar S Ranch LLC and purchased by Alan and Denise Taylor for $100,000. Daze Like This is also a daughter of Corona Cartel, and is out of the Tolltac mare Gold Daze, making her a half sister to champion Jess You And I. She was sold in foal to First Down Dash.
"The crowd of people today represented a record number of people in attendance with a strong contingency of International buyers from Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Italy, and other foreign countries," said general manager Jeff Tebow in a press release. "The weather couldn’t have been better for this time of year. We are elated with the first day results and expect the sale to remain strong over the next two days."
