E.P.O.N.A. (Equine Protection of North America), a non-profit, 501(c)(3) rescue and rehabilitation facility for abused and neglected horses, today announced Jared Laham, Founder and Creative Director of The Solid Studios, as the winner of its recent logo redesign contest. The logo redesign contest was open to the entire New Hampshire graphic design community in the fall of 2009 and concluded in late November. E.P.O.N.A. saw a large and diverse amount of designs entered into its contest, but felt Laham’s design captured E.P.ON.A.’s overall message. E.P.O.N.A. is home to 13 horses rescued from slaughter, euthanasia, foreclosure or abuse.
After Laham heard about the logo redesign contest, he began to research the organization and its goals to better understand the concepts needed to communicate through this new piece of identity. He began to develop and refine a handful of logo ideas that supported E.P.O.N.A.’s goals. When notified that he was the winner of the contest, Laham was excited and honored to have helped an organization with such a great cause.
Jared Laham, Creative Director & Founder of The Solid Studios"When I began this process, one of the things that resonated with me was that the volunteers support the horses and the horses provide love and support to its volunteers,” commented Laham. “There is a balanced relationship of mutually-beneficial care and a direct emotional connection between humans and horses. I wanted this logo to bring that message forward and show the strength, support and professionalism of the E.P.O.N.A. organization."
Laham is a graphic designer from Portsmouth, NH with a background in print and interactive design. The Solid Studios, founded in 2006, is Laham’s most recent venture. Its services include branding, interface design, web design, flash animation, web development and art direction. A Massachusetts native, Laham received his B.A. in Studio Art and Graphic Design from Salve Regina University in Rhode Island.
