Happy New Year from AHYA!
On behalf of everyone on the AHYA Board, AHA Staff and Youth Programs, we would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year! Grab your horses, grab your friends and stay connected via email, the website, Facebook, MySpace and check out every issue of Modern Arabian Horse magazine.
Will You Remember to Renew Your Membership this Year?
December and January are the two largest months for membership renewals. We really enjoy having you as a member of AHYA and we would hate for you to miss a single monthly AHYA Insider, issue of Modern Arabian Horse magazine or chance to participate in any of our youth activities. So poke, prod and bug your parents to remember to send in your membership renewal for 2010.

USEF Offers New Varsity Lettering Program
You don't have to be a record-setting quarterback, point guard or track star to letter in high school sports anymore. The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) is writing a new chapter in the recognition of high school sports - one that honors Equestrian athletes. The USEF's High School Equestrian Athlete program will offer specially designed emblems and pins, exclusively for equestrian athletes in grades 9-12. To complete an enrollment application, click here.
Support the ASPCA Equine Fund
The ASPCA Equine Fund awards substantial grants to organizations that make life better for horses. Organizations involved in horse protection and rescue can apply for one of these grants, and the ASPCA awards many different kinds of groups four times a year. If you want your dollars to go straight to equine causes, you can make your donation directly to this program.
Make Your 2010 Resolution to Help Horses!
Be Their Voice
The best way to help horses is to be their voice in our nation's courts and halls of power. Your vote is your greatest weapon against injustice. Visit the American Horse Council website to find out how the horse industry is represented in Washington or visit the American Youth Horse Council website to find out how you can be involved.
Lead by Example
If you care about horses, make your actions consistent with your words and be sure your horse is receiving proper care. Get tips about proper care by clicking here.
Volunteer
As anyone involved in an equine rescue group can tell you, there is no gift more valuable than time. Find a local group with a mission in which you believe and volunteer. Helping horses does not have to mean manual labor in a barn. Talk to the group about how you can apply your special talents to its cause. Maybe they need a graphic designer to whip up a new logo, a writer to help publish a newsletter, someone handy to make minor repairs, a photography enthusiast to take pictures for the group's website, a good talker to staff an information table at an event …. You get the idea!
