55th Anniversary Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show
February 11-21, 2010 – WestWorld, Scottsdale

A wonderful group of dynamic speakers will be at the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, they will include: Lee Smith, Philipp Kast, Dr. Patrick McCue DVM, Stephanie Palmer-DuRoss & the Scottsdale Police Mounted Unit. Each of the speakers will be giving a “hands-on” demonstration at the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show.

Philipp Kast - Kast a professional horse trainer for the past 30 years specializes in Dressage and Sport Horse. Philipp has trained in Germany to exhibit Sport Horses and has shown many different breeds including Arabians. During the Sport Horse demonstration he will focus on the rules of Sport Horse classes, discuss the proper tack, what the judges are looking for, and preparing the horse for the class. kabori@aol.com

Bob Leary – This is Bob’s 6th year with us. Do you have a horse that will not stand still to mount, will not stop without pulling on the reins or just has a mind of it’s own? Or are you new to the world of horses and want to learn to be a safer rider? Bob Leary teaches you how to utilize the four natural aids to properly train your horse in order to maximize the desired response. His method places you in control and puts the fun back in riding even with a horse that has some problems. No-rein stops, lateral turns and using your legs to slow a horse down are just a few techniques that will be demonstrated.

Dr. Patrick McCue DVM - Breeding a problem mare. Dr. McCue graduated from veterinary school at the University of California, Davis, in 1986. He subsequently completed an internship in Large Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and a residency in Equine Reproduction at the University of California, Davis. He received a PhD in Comparative Pathology, with an emphasis on reproductive endocrinology and ovarian pathology in the mare, from UC-Davis in 1992, and joined the faculty at Colorado State University in 1994. Dr. McCue is the Director of the Equine Reproduction Laboratory and coordinates the Clinical Broodmare, Foaling and Embryo Transfer Services. He also attends to dystocias, high risk pregnancies and other equine reproduction cases at the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Colorado State University.

Stephanie Palmer-DuRoss - Local Regional and National award winning Endurance rider Stephanie Palmer-DuRoss will be speaking about Endurance riding. She has competed in Endurance riding for 21 years with over 8000 Endurance miles. She will be discussing the basics of Endurance riding. This will include information on where to start. What you would need to ride Endurance. How to find local rides in your area. She will be talking about the American Endurance Ride Conference and the motto of “to finish is to win”. She will explain what to expect at Endurance rides including different distances and how to complete. There will be information on vetting and the “no drug policy” She will be brining along her Arabian Hadji Halef Omar who has over 4700 Endurance miles in the last 9 years.

Scottsdale Police Mounted Unit (SPMU) - Began in 1985 with two horses and two officers. The mounted unit has gone through many changes during the past 22 years. Today the unit has eight horses, five full time riders and five reserve riders. The officers and their mounts patrol our city downtown entertainment district, neighborhoods, and the many large special events held in Scottsdale. Before being allowed out on patrol, the horse and rider attend an intensive five-week mounted police-training program. Due to the dangerous situations the mounted patrol face on the street they’re trained to be able to handle an array of obstacles and arrest procedures. During the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, the Scottsdale Police Mounted Unit will provide demonstrations on how they train their horses, interact with criminals, crowd control and arrest procedures.

Lee Smith – Smith from Wickenburg, AZ, has a unique philosophy, “Don’t simply focus on doing what I do but learn to see what I see!” Regardless of your discipline, Smith can help you raise your level of performance by focusing on the partnership of horse and rider working together in harmony. Smith offers insight, skill and tools to help you enjoy your horse, while developing your horsemanship skills in the process, through feel, timing, balance, and an in depth understanding of equine psychology. www.leesmithdiamonds.com
