Judson College equestrians acquitted themselves well at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association competition hosted by Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) on Feb. 6. The show was at Linda's School of Riding in Conyers and included two western shows in one day beginning at 9 a.m.
During the first show, Joy Hays of Wetumpka placed second in "Open Reining" and earned enough points to make her eligible for the upcoming IHSA Western Regional Show to be held later this month. She also placed fourth in "Open Western Horsemanship."
Andrea Luckie of Alexander City placed second in "Novice Western Horsemanship."
Samantha Marcella of Cullman placed first (earning enough points to also make her eligible for the upcoming IHSA Western Regional show), Heather Hodge of Thomasville place second and Sarah Dunn of Monroeville placed fourth in "Intermediate II Western Horsemanship," section 1.
One of Judson's newest team members, Megan Kingsmore of Bay Minette placed fifth and Corey Finlay of Anniston placed sixth in "Intermediate II Western Horsemanship," section 2.
The other two newest team members, Meagan Bennett of Wadley placed second and Lindy Cowart of Florence, Miss., placed third in "Beginner Western Horsemanship."
The Judson team tied with Berry College for the "High Point Team" award for the first show.
During the second show, Hays placed fourth in "Open Reining" and sixth in "Open Western Horsemanship."
Luckie placed second in "Novice Western Horsemanship."
Finlay placed fourth in "Intermediate II Western Horsemanship," section 1.
Dunn placed third and Bennett placed fifth in "Intermediate II Western Horsemanship," section 2. Bennett also placed second and Cowart placed fourth in "Beginner Western Horsemanship."
The team once again tied with another school, North Georgia College, for the "Reserve High Point Team" award for the second show.
"I am so pleased by the perseverance of this year's team," said equine director Jennifer Hoggle. "They've really done a great job in performing!"
