Arizona
You may ask who this girl is. Well as you may know my name is Bailey Gonzales and I’m 2009 Fiesta Days Teen Queen. I’m sixteen and attending Wickenburg High School. I have just recently moved to Wickenburg and I love the small town atmosphere. I was very excited when Desert Foothills Community Association asked to appoint me their first Fiesta Days Rodeo Teen Queen. It has already been lots of fun and the year isn’t even half over. I’m very hopeful that this year The Fiesta Days Rodeo Queen Nicole Fisher and I will have a very fun year. I went to Chino Valley parade and was very welcomed and I even won my category, which was very exciting. Nicole and I made our way up to Payson rodeo it was our first time together as a team. We got to carry flags and push cattle there. Then we made our way up to the very beautiful country of Kingman, Arizona. We won the leathers category in the parade there. This year so far has been very fulfilling.
In addition to Fiesta Days rodeo and parade, the DFCA produced the Wayne Wilson Children's Charity Rodeo and Carnival on October 12th - 13th. We had a great turn out of competitors for the event and a good crowd as well. The kids loved the train ride and the little kid’s rodeo we put on for them. We had mutton bustin, tug of war, boot scramble and stick horse races. I personally think tug of war was the best because I got to get down and dirty. Friday night we had a great bull riding event. I was very proud to carry the Arizona flag during the national anthem ceremony that night. Our rodeo performances Saturday and Sunday were great as well.
Gilbert parade went very well. A HUGE thank you goes out to Chelle Bullard for doing so much hard work and keeping Gilbert parade around this year. It was so nice to keep the tradition of the parade going. Gilbert rodeo was a blast; it was great to be a part of The Rockin’ Rodeo! They had excellent stock and a great group of competitors.
I have also attended Wickenburg’s Christmas Light Parade and even though it was a bit chilly outside I still had a blast. One very exciting moment for me was after the parade, my mom couldn’t get me of the float fast enough at the light because I was all wrapped up in lights so my brother drove to Circle K so she could get me off the float. Those of you who have been to Wickenburg know that it’s a small town. As we were driving under the passage way going up a little hill my brother gassed it and I went flying back into the Christmas tree. I looked behind me and saw all the Firefighter’s laughing at me. Now I understand why people say I know how to make people laugh. In the end it all paid off because I won the individual award.
If you don’t believe that I know how to bring a smile to people’s faces, well you should just come to Cave Creek the weekend of April 9th through the 11th to see our fun filled Fiesta Days Rodeo. I can make a promise to you, it’ll be one of the most exciting functions you can go to that weekend. I would also like to send a Thank You out to Warren’s Hay-N-More in Chino Valley for ordering saddle pads and polo wraps for our parade outfit. A Thank You to 3F Welding and Big O Tires/Anderson Family in Prescott for sponsoring my chaps. To my mother Susan Gonzales I want to send out a Thank you as well for being my right hand man. Also to JD’s Tack Room for always donating to all of our fundraisers.
Remember Sit tall in the saddle, Hold your head up high, Keep your eyes fixed where the trail meets the sky ,And live like you ain't afraid to die, And don't be scared, Just enjoy the ride.
