It was a busy and successful year in the barn of Naylor Performance Horses, and many of the riders in the barn walked away with several year-end honors.
“It was a great year for my barn, and I’m extremely proud of everyone in my barn,” said Brent Naylor. “They’ve worked hard all year, and it’s great to see it pay off in the end.”
The riders in Naylor’s barn earned honors in both the Arizona Reining Horse Association and the Desert Reining Horse Association.
Marty Levine and Genuine Rollback earned the AzRHA’s Reserve Championship Novice Horse Non Pro Level 1 honors. The pair also placed third in the Intermediate Non Pro class, fifth in the Prime Time Non Pro division and earned Top 10 honors in the AzRHA Non Pro division. In the DRHA, Marty and Genuine Rollback earned the Championship title in the Novice Horse Non Pro Level 1, and finished in the Top 10 in the Prime Time Non Pro division. Marty also finished in the DRHA’s Top 10 Prime Time Non Pro division aboard Joses T Chex. Meanwhile, Marty’s wife, Joan Levine, also rode Joses T Chex to a Top Ten finish in the AzRHA Novice Horse Non Pro Level 1.
“He’s got a lot of patience with a lot of different kinds of riders and people. He’s a perfectionist, and he won’t accept anything less, but he rides with you ever inch of the way inside the show pen,” explained Marty. “I’ve been riding with him for 15 years. I don’t know if I could have won the stuff I won without him.”
Youth rider Kaylee Dufresne rode Doctor Champagne to a Top 10 finish in the AzRHA’s 10 & Under division, and also finished sixth out of ten competitiors in the 13 & Under division after competing in only two shows. Kaylee also finished as the Champion All Breed Youth rider.
Doctor Champagne pulled double duty this past year, as he also took Sheryl Ali to Top Ten finishes in both the AzRHA’s Non Pro and Limited Non Pro division.
“Riding with Brent, he someone who will bring you up to your potential,” Sheryl said. “He’s very good on giving you direction and focus. I work nights, so sometimes when I come to ride, I’m tired, but Brent will help keep me on track. I think all of the non pros in his barn do so well because he wants us to do it perfect and helps us get there. For me, he brings you to the level that you want to be.”
Fellow non pro Audrey Bowyer also had a successful year, as she finished in the DRHA’s Top Ten Green as Grass riders on Smart Lookin Meloday. Naylor also rode Smart Looking Melody, finishing in the Top 5 of the DRHA’s Novice Horse Open division.
Nancy Elton, and her daughter, Paris, also had a successful year of showing, and were a welcome addition to the barn at the end of 2009. Nancy and Fast Cat Ballou finished third in the Rookie 1 at the AzRHA, as well as the Top 10 in the Novice horse Non Pro Level 1. In the DRHA, Nancy was the Reserve Champion Rookie Level 1 Non Pro, as well as a Top 10 finisher in the Rookie 2 Non Pro division. Paris Elton and Sur Miss N Jac finished as the AzRHA’s Reserve Champion in the 10 & Under division, as well as taking third in the DRHA’s 13& Under division.
Finally, Brent Naylor had a very successful season in the Open division. Riding his reliable stallion Big Papi, Naylor was the AzRHA’s Reserve Open Champion, as well as the DRHA’s Open Champion.
Naylor also took Sheeza Dirty Martini to the AzRHA’s Top Ten in the Snaffle Bit Horse division. With Slidin Easy, Naylor was in the Top 10 of the AzRHA’s Novice Horse Open Level. Naylor also took Chics Shooting Star to the Top 10 in the AzRHA’s Open division, as well as finishing third in the DRHA’s Open division.
At the beginning of 2010, the Naylor’s had to say goodbye to Slidin Easy, whom they called “Jett.” Though the loss was devastating to the family, Brandy Naylor was added that the family was thankful for the time they had with the horse.
“He was very talented and had so much potential,” Brandy explained. “He is greatly missed in our barn, and we’d like to dedicate our 2010 year to him.”
