The Tucson Area of the American Diabetes Association invites cyclists of all levels to join us for the 2010 Tour de Cure®, a cycling event to raise money for diabetes, the nation's fifth leading cause of death by disease. The Annual Tucson Tour de Cure will occur this Sunday, March 7, 2010, starting and finishing at the Rancho Sahuarita Welcome Center in Sahuarita.
"We are very excited about this year's Tour de Cure®," says Jeff Parker, Chairman of the Tucson Tour de Cure. "The routes are the best we've ever had, and offer the perfect ride for every level of cyclist. Our goal is to raise $100,000, and we anticipate over 400 participants in the 2010 event. The money raised from the Tour de Cure supports the research and education programs of the American Diabetes Association, including Camp AZDA, the only resident camp for children with diabetes in the state of Arizona. Currently, we are very proud that the American Diabetes Association has over $ 4 million invested in twelve diabetes research projects in Arizona."
The Tour de Cure® consists of four routes -- a 10K family and novice-friendly ride, and 30K, 50K and 100K routes. The longer routes travel through the communities of Sahuarita and Green Valley, and offer a scenic and challenging cycling adventure. All routes have been created by experienced cyclists to provide a safe and memorable riding event for all participants, and are fully supported with route marshals and rest stops every 8 - 10 miles. At the finishline, cyclists will be greeted with a celebration, including lunch, entertainment, massages and a Kids Zone.
Cyclists who would like to participate can register on the morning of the event, beginning at 6:30 am. The registration fee is $15.00. Registrants must raise $150.00 in donations to participate. Donations can be sought through the day of the event.
