Dear Friend of Cowboy Culture,
Tin Pan South (TPS) takes place in Nashville, Tennessee, each spring. It is the largest fundraising event for the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). Since its inception seventeen years ago, TPS has grown to include over 250 songwriters performing at over seventy shows throughout the week. In addition to the shows, TPS offers daily networking activities, including the opportunity to attend an interview with legendary guest songwriters.
In 2009, for the very first time, Western songwriters were included in the Tin Pan South songwriter festival in Nashville. Our historic Round, “Campfire Cowboys,” included Michael Martin Murphey, Juni Fisher, Joyce Woodson, and Jon Chandler, performing their original songs at the world famous Station Inn. Their Cowboy round was a phenomenal success.
I’m thrilled to tell you that cowboy music has been accepted for inclusion at Tin Pan South 2010!
Promoting the preservation of Cowboy and pioneer heritage requires that we continually expand our audience by reaching out to those who may not be aware of the depth and significance of our Cowboy culture. Expansion dictates that we insert ourselves into places and events which are not limited to the familiar comfort of traditional Western circles. Tin Pan South, the world's largest songwriter festival, is a renowned event which presents us with a key opportunity to showcase quality contemporary Western music to a new and broader group of music lovers.
Thousands of fans converge on Nashville to participate in these music workshops, and to attend the rounds, which include Bluegrass, Americana, Pop, Rock, and Country, but until last year, no rounds dedicated to sharing Western music. The National Day of the Cowboy organization approached NSAI for four consecutive years to facilitate a change to that because we believe Western songwriters work hard to preserve America's pioneer history through their music. We want to support these musicians and their efforts by assuring them continued representation at this prestigious songwriter event. It is not a Western festival, but that’s exactly why we need to have a presence there. This event is at the heart of the songwriting world. We can bring increased recognition to the Western music genre by guaranteeing that it remains an important element of TPS.
This event is consistent with the mission of the National Day of the Cowboy 501(c)3, relative to educating the community at large by supporting the work of our Western songwriters who elevate and celebrate our pioneer heritage and cowboy culture through their music. Tin Pan South is dedicated to bringing attention to songwriters and their songs. It does not promote record companies or any other aspect of the music business; only the songs and their creators - Western songwriters deserve to be part of this event.
Since songwriters are not paid to participate, we need financial contributions to help defray our songwriters’ travel expenses. The four writers for whom are seeking sponsorship monies are Joyce Woodson (California), Jon Chandler (Colorado), Ray Doyle (California) and Michael Martin Murphey (Wisconsin).
Sponsor Benefits include:
1. Your name, website address and logo on a brochure given to all who attend the round.
2. Acknowledgment in the National Day of the Cowboy News; over 3,800 subscribers and is posted on numerous websites. Our newsletter is also posted in its entirety on several other websites and published to the internet.
3. Your name and logo in an acknowledgement on the National Day of the Cowboy websites.

Please remember, songwriters are not paid to participate in TPS and Western songwriters are probably also giving up a paid performance to support preservation in this way. We are only asking for help with expenses associated with getting the writers to the Campfire Cowboys’ Round. Our goal is to raise $1,200 – $2,000 before March 21, 2010.
If you’d like to support these songwriters and their work, you may send a tax deductible contribution to National Day of the Cowboy, 115 West Exchange Avenue, Fort Worth TX, 76164, OR click the “Donate” button on our home page, OR send your donation directly to our Paypal account, donations@nationaldayofthecowboy.com.
NSAI's 18th Annual Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival will be held from Tuesday, March 30th through Saturday, April 3rd, 2010. The western round is scheduled for Friday evening, April 2 (time and venue TBD).
Come on out and here some truly great music! The western songwriters and I thank you in advance for your generous support.
