Dear Mr. Wager -
I read your article on the proposed 20 million dollar improvements to
the West World Equidome and felt I could not resist a couple of
comments.
First of all, I do not live in your area - Just a winter visitor. But
I have been going to West World for many years during the Quarter Horse
Show as well as the Arabian Horse Show. If the improvement they made
last year of revamping the west walk ways is any indication, then they
are trying to make it easier to cross the pen area. A few added
restrooms are also a plus.
But good heavens - How can they call those poor excuse for "seats" in
the reserved bleacher section an improvement? (On the south side of
the Equidome.) I would challenge the person who authorized those slats
to sit on them for 3 to 4 hours and view an event!!
I paid $22.00 (including handling charges, etc. through Ticketmaster)
for a reserved seat in this section to see the Saturday night
performance of the just completed Arabian Horse Show. NEVER AGAIN.
Those approximate 6" seats are ridiculous for an adult and the flip
down backs are a joke. Not only are they too small for the back of an
adult, but the slant on them is way too far back. If you like leaning
into the knees of the person behind you, then they are fine. No Thanks
for me.
I am sure they make for easy cleaning at some point but what about
being half way comfortable for the people that come to the events -
Paying admission, shopping vendors, buying food, etc. Not to include
what you have spent in Scottsdale and the Phoenix area just to get to
the event.
I have attended events from high school, pro football, pro basketball,
rodeos, concerts, etc. Never have I been subjected to a worse place to
put my "derriere."
I hope someone plans the next round of improvements better than those
listed by you on the polo field and I encountered in the "improved"
seating area of West World. I will, if I should ever elect to go
again, just sit on a nice flat unreserved bleacher seat.
I am sure the folks that play Polo don't want to see any more black top
put down either. West World has many uses from the balloon festival to
dog shows but it is a mecca for the horseman. We can all share in the
useage of it.
Good Luck getting the Scottsdale powers to be to listen to what the
people who use the facilites have to say.
