Mini & Pony
A four-in-hand team of perfectly matched American Miniature Horses put on a dazzling show at the finale of the Dressage Under the Stars competition at the Players Club & Restaurant in Wellington, proving that big things do come in small packages. The Wee Reds, owned by Linda Kern of Caribbean Dreams Miniature Horses in Loxahatchee, Florida, and boasting 10 National Championship and Reserve Championship titles, were the opening act of the finale at the star-studded event.
Combined Driver Chester Weber, the eight-time U.S. National Four-In-Hand Champion and a judge for the evening’s Dressage Under the Stars finale, drove the award-winning Wee Reds in a cones course demonstration. Weber, who has driven the talented tiny team at two Wellington Holiday horse shows, also brought the judges in by carriage, much to the delight of the crowd.
Kern, who is a fan of Weber’s and always thrilled when he drives her small but mighty team, had the Wee Reds pulling a Glinkowski Mini Mix marathon vehicle built in Poland. Ranging in age from four to seven, the Wee Reds are made up of I’m Little So What, Master of the Chase, All Fryed Up and Rhapsody in Red.
“The crowd was thrilled when Chester drove the cones courses with the Wee Reds, and when he drove the judges into the ring. Chester left his giant team of Warmbloods at home, but he is certainly at home driving a team of small equines,” said Johnny Robb, Director of Marketing for the American Shetland Pony Club and American Miniature Horse Registry (ASPC/AMHR). “Small equines, both American Miniature Horses and American Shetland Ponies, have a large fan base. This was a great opportunity for everyone at Dressage Under the Stars to see how truly versatile and exciting small equines are. Linda has a very talented team and we are always thrilled when she brings them out and shows what they can do.”
Started in 1888, the American Shetland Pony Club is one of the oldest equine registries in the United States. Incorporated in 1972, the American Miniature Horse Registry was first the registry for Miniature Horses in the United States and continues to be one of the foremost organizations committed to the preservation and promotion of these small equines.
