Old Friends, the Thoroughbred Retirement Facility in Georgetown, KY, is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of its New York satellite farm, Old Friends at Cabin Creek: The Bobby Frankel Division, to be held July 22 – July 24.
Cabin Creek, located in Greenfield Center, NY, is owned and operated by Joann and Mark Pepper and has been accepting retired Thoroughbreds since last fall. The farm was named in honor of New York-based Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel, who passed away in November 2009
Cabin Creek is currently home to Travers winners Will’s Way and Thunder Rumble, stakes champs Watchem Smokey and New Export, New York favorite Cool ’N Collective, and America’s lovable loser Zippy Chippy, among others.
The festivities will coincide with the new season of live racing at Saratoga and will begin on Thursday July 22 with the “Inaugural Little Silver Charm Miniature Golf Tournament.” An open house, evening cookout, and Saturday-evening cocktail party and silent auction will round out the weekend.
Fans and visitors are welcome to attend any of the scheduled events.
A Schedule of Grand Opening Events:
Thursday, July 22, 11 am - 2 pm: The inaugural Little Silver Charm Miniature Golf Tournament, Murphy's Driving Range, Route 9 in Saratoga Springs.
Teams, headed by jockeys Jean Cruguet, Kent Desormeaux, Robbie Davis, and others to be announced, will do battle on the diminutive links in this tourney named after the Old Friends mascot, Little Silver Charm, a miniature-Shetland cross who resides at the Georgetown farm.

Thursday July 22, 3 pm: Open house at Cabin Creek, 483 Sand Hill Road, Greenfield Center, NY. Visitors are welcome to tour the farm and meet the retired champions.
Thursday July 22, 4 pm: Dedication Ceremony at Cabin Creek. Michael Blowen, the president and founder of Old Friends, along with members of the Frankel family, will host a special observance.
Thursday July 22, 5:30pm: Picnic Dinner and live music. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.
Friday July 23: Opening Day at Saratoga Race Course. Spend a day at America’s oldest racetrack.
Saturday July 24, 12 – 3pm: Open House at Cabin Creek, 483 Sand Hill Road, Greenfield Center. Fans are welcome join in one of the regularly scheduled tours of the farm and meet our retired champions.
Saturday July 24: 7 pm - 9:30 p.m.: Cocktail party and silent auction at The Washington Inn, 111 South Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY. Tickets for the evening are $50 and are available by contacting Joann Pepper at 518-698-2377 or emailing cabincreek4@hotmail.com.
