Quarter Horse
The National Cowgirl Museum's Cowgirl University, Cowgirl U, will head east to Augusta, New Jersey, on August 27-29 for a one-of-a-kind event featuring horsemanship, trail riding and mounted shooting.
Many of the Cowgirl Hall of Fame's honorees first called the eastern United States home before the lure of the West drew them from their roots. The Cowgirl U event will profile expert sharpshooter Annie Oakley, who was born in Ohio and performed in nearby New York City with Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show. Cowgirl U attendees will also be able to bring their own horses to the Peter J. Cofrancesco Memorial Quarter Horse Show, where AQHA Professional Horseman of the Year Jeffrey Pait, joined by leading professionals Tammy and Garry McAllister, T.R. Potts, Gary Weeks and Tom Riely, will provide lessons on recognizing good conformation, instruction on horsemanship and trail-riding skills and a mounted shooting demonstration by champion Karl Bauer.
Registrants will be able to put their new-found skills to use in a fun horse judging contest, as well as a horsemanship class and a trail challenge. Co-hosted by Cofrancesco Farms, registration will include meals, instruction and a cocktail party and reception at Cofrancesco Farms in Sparta, New Jersey.
Registration for the event is $400 with a horse and $300 without. A $100 discount will apply to current members of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. Annual membership fees begin at $50. A limited number of horses will be available for lease for $100 for the full weekend. Registration will require a release of liability.
