Arizona
First and foremost, I must say THANK YOU to everyone who supported me in the Primary Election. I also want to say THANK YOU to Tracy for allowing me to communicate directly with the Arizona horse community. I received so many calls, emails and even personal comments from people who read my articles in the Bridle and Bit. This speaks volumes to the impact of this magazine in our community. For this opportunity, I am grateful.
With 100% precincts reporting, I will be one of two people advancing to the General Election as your Republican candidate in Legislative District 7 for the Arizona House of Representatives. I explained it like this to my horse show friends: I have made the ‘cut’ and now I am in the ‘finals’ and hope to come out with a buckle! In this race, both the champion and reserve champion advance to the Capitol. Two people serve in the Arizona House for each district.
Needless to say, there is still much work to be done. I am spending every spare moment meeting new people throughout our district. I even hope to do some political campaigning at the Scottsdale Classic!
Don’t be surprised if, when I see you at the show or at the feed store, I ask you whether or not you voted in the Primary Election. I hope you did. Voter turn out was at about 30% for the state. I believe I had such a strong showing in my first election because my personal network of friends, family and new supporters campaigned on my behalf, many of which are readers of the Bridle and Bit. This was a real grass-roots campaign. I am grateful for the support and we cannot quit. We need to make sure that even more people vote in the General Election, and hopefully those people will vote Heather Carter.
People involved in the horse industry, whether professionally or personally, know the value of a hard day’s work. If you own, raise or train horses, you know the challenges of getting up before the sun in August to catch a ride in Phoenix, or even forging through the snow in January to feed the horses in Flagstaff. My horse friends are some of the hardest working, most dedicated people I know! We know what it means to take responsibility. And now I am asking you to take responsibility for the future of Arizona by electing people to office who will stay focused and get the job done.
I believe it is time for our elected officials to take responsibility for turning around our great state. I believe that all efforts at the Capitol need to focus on economic recovery. It will not be easy, but it is that simple. We need to spend every waking moment working on a plan for Arizona and using that plan to balance the budget. This is the most important task ahead, and we need to tackle the problem step by step. Every piece of legislation must be vetted against the question, ‘is this good for Arizona?’ or ‘will this turn around the economy in Arizona.’ If the answer is no, then the vote must be no.
But first things first, Arizona needs you to vote in the General Election. If you haven’t registered to vote, do so. The deadline to vote is October 4th. Early ballots are mailed October 7th and the General Election is November 2nd. You can go to https://servicearizona.com for online voter registration and mail-in ballot requests or contact your county election office at https://www.azsos.gov/election/county.htm.
Remember, in the General Election, you can vote for the most qualified candidate from either political party for each elected position.
