Reining
Three of the nation’s top NRHA Professionals are coming to Outwest Stallion Station yet again! The third annual Southwest Regional Reining Clinic as a part of the NRHA Regional Clinic series will be held October 23rd and 24th. NRHA Professionals Matt Mills, Randy Paul and Tracer Gilson will once again hold a clinic to benefit Reiners of all ages and experience levels in Scottsdale, Arizona.
NRHA Professional Randy Paul reached one of the industry’s great milestones by becoming a Million Dollar Rider in 2008. Paul has had a long and outstanding career with multiple NRHA Futurity and Derby championships. Tracer Gilson, an NRHA Professional with over $310,000 in earnings brings a lifetime of experience to share with clinic participants. Gilson grew up in the NRHA with multiple Top Ten youth finishes and in 2006 placed fifth in the Novice Horse Open Top Ten. NRHA Professional Matt Mills completes this all-star crew. Mills has over $409,000 in NRHA Lifetime Earnings. In 2000, he was the NRHA Futurity’s Intermediate Open Reserve Champion and in 2006 he represented the United States at the FEI World Equestrian Games. Mills finished fourth as an individual and helped the U.S. win the Gold Medal in team competition.
“I am always excited to help the youth program out,” Mills said. “If we don’t have the youth and a future for the Reining industry I don’t have a job!” “Anytime we can step up and help as a professional is very important, I think we owe it to NRHA.”
This is the fifth year NRHA has organized clinics to help raise funds for the National Reining Horse Youth Association (NRHyA). The clinics are designed to help anyone who is interested in learning more about reining horses, the Reining business and NRHA. One of the greatest benefits of the clinics is having multiple professionals available to offer advice.
Participants from all disciplines learn by doing and also by watching other Reiners during the hands-on sessions. Alison Rowe, a Regional Clinic participant who has always been a fan of Reining used the clinic as an opportunity to learn more about the sport. “The clinic has motivated me to commit and really get into Reining,” said Rowe. “I am looking for a good Reining horse and ready to go for it!”
“I really enjoyed having multiple trainers and their different viewpoints,” said participant Anne Peters. “The concepts really came together for me when they were each able to show us their different techniques.”
The one-on-one training that participants receive is tailored to each individual’s needs. Every clinic consists of two one-day clinics giving participants the opportunity to attend either or both days as they prefer.
Space is limited so sign up as soon as possible. All proceeds support the NRHyA scholarships, programs and youth activities. The cost is $250 for youth riders participating in both days or $150 for one day. Adults are encouraged to participate with an entry of $450 for both days or $250 for one day. Auditors are welcome to attend for $25 per day.
