(Wickenburg) – Do you enjoy hiking or riding in the Vulture Mountain area? Then the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department and Bureau of Land Management want to hear from you! “The agencies have been working together to develop a Recreation Management Plan for the Vulture Mountains. This plan will allow both agencies to cooperatively manage the area while improving recreational opportunities and facilities,” stated Maricopa County Supervisor Max Wilson, District 4.
“The timing for this project could not have been more perfect for either agency! The County, BLM and the consultants have worked closely sharing resources and information which has resulted in staff time and financial savings for both agencies. Funding for improvements outlined in the plan will be a little tricky given the current economic and fiscal climate. However, if you look at the long-term prospective for the project, it makes good business sense. Ultimately, it will be a good recreation amenity and economic engine for western Maricopa County,” Wilson added.
To date, four stakeholder advisory group meetings and three public meetings have been held to collect feedback from parties utilizing the area. A final public meeting to review the proposed options for the county facilities has been slated for Tuesday, June 28 at 6 p.m. at the Wickenburg Community Center located at 120 N. Valentine Street in Wickenburg.
Individuals who cannot attend the meeting may view the proposed facilities, trails and phase plans at http://www.maricopa.gov/parks/vulturemtn.aspx/. Those wishing to vote on their preferred county parks facility alternative and provide input on phasing may do so at the same link via a short survey.
