Wrangler National Finals Rodeo rookie steer wrestler Olin Hannum won his first check of the week -- $17,885 -- for his 3.8-second run to win Round 7 on Wednesday in action at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Hannum, a Plain City native now living in Malad, Idaho, topped Todd Suhn by just one-tenth of a second for the victory.
"I was really excited," Hannum said. "It feels like forever when you're sitting in there throwing (the steer). I felt like he hung up on me a little bit, too. I'm just excited that I've got something in the bank."
Fellow Utahn Kaycee Feild took advantage of a re-ride for his fourth victory in the first seven rounds of the National Finals Rodeo, scoring 85.5 points on Gold Dust.
Feild, the world standings leader from Payson, received the option for a re-ride after scoring 74 points on Inky. He won the opening three rounds in the 10-round finals.
Will Lowe of Canyon, Texas, on River Boat Annie, and Casey Colletti of Pueblo, Colo., on Dusty Dan, tied for second at 84. Feild has earned $237,006 this season. Lowe is second with $171,673.
Feild also leads in the NFR aggregate standings with seven rides for 607 points. Feild leads the Ram Top Gun Award standings. Luke Branquinho has earned $83,798 at the Finals to push his season total to $171,538.
