GAME READY–1 produced by Andrea Fappani is a must have DVD for any level of horse person that has a firm desire to excel in the Reining arena. Once again, Andrea has taken an ordinary subject and made it into a very interesting, lesson formatted video. For just under $50. he brilliantly takes you through a real life "Game Plan" and demonstrates why show preparation is essential to a successful outcome in the arena.

It's a challenge for most of us to 1.) FOCUS on developing a winning strategy and 2.) MANAGE the key components of executing a near perfect pattern regardless of the situation. With that in mind, Andrea broke it down and demonstrated on a horse that has had several pretty big runs on him– he put him in a show arena and walked thru the basic, but critical parts of how he best manages his warm up/show prep plan. At times it seemed like a simple task, but he felt every area required some testing, a few drills and last minute adjustments, and then retesting. He emphasized that “no matter how well we thought we were doing at home, we needed to realize that the show environment is completely different”. Efficiencies in managing your warm up and drills in the show arena environment are extremely important to a positive outcome. This video will help you develop a great understanding how to test your horse and yourself prior to your class– which will produce lasting results! You will learn that there is a systematic approach to every detail of each maneuver. Included in the video are Circles, which have several elements: Large Fast, Small Slow, Speed Control, Comeback, & Lead Changes! Same with the turnarounds: Correct Turnarounds must begin with a clean start, have a consistent step while being able to add speed and turn them off with precision. Where and when you add your voice and cues can determine the size of your paycheck! With your Stops; Andrea emphasizes consistency– which always pays big dividends. Checking your gears, steering and making sure your horse won't run off is just the beginning. You’ve also got to stop well and rollback correctly to put points in the right column of the score sheet. He takes about take an hour and goes thru these critical areas and teaches you manage your checklist and strategy for each horse.


After watching this video a few times and learning to develop a solid plan for each of your horses at the show, you will not only add points to the score card but be increasing the size of your pay checks at the end of the day.


The 1+ hour video was recorded live at West World Equestrian Facility during a Clinic at the Sun Circuit in January of 2012. While the content of this video is outstanding there are a few technical challenges, however they don’t take away from the quality of information. Andrea had so many requests to publish this video that he chose to produce it as it was originally recorded. I agree with Andrea, it’s a great lesson video that should be incorporated into your handbook of skills and performance tips.
