Mike Rutherford Jr. of Buda, Texas, has been elected Vice President of the National Cutting Horse Association, by a vote of NCHA members. Ballots were tabulated June 12 in the election for NCHA Vice President. A total of 2,436 ballots were received by the accounting firm of Whitley Penn, LLP, and tabulated under their oversight.
Results of the election had Mike Rutherford Jr. receiving a total of 1,242 votes and Bruce Richerson of Alexandria, Louisiana receiving 1,194 votes.
Rutherford, 52, has been an NCHA member since 1989, and has participated in the sport as an owner, breeder, judge, director, show producer, chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee and a member of the Audit/Finance Committee.
In his campaign, Rutherford emphasized the need to support weekend and Amateur cutters.
"I believe that a stronger Amateur division with greater monies available for purses and prizes will enhance the Open class, increase sales of horses, training of horses, and provide more marketable product for our staff to increase sponsor participation," he said.
Rutherford will assume his duties as Vice President at the general membership meeting on June 24 during the NCHA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, along with incoming Ernie Beutenmiller Jr., and President Elect, Barbara Brooks.
Based in Fort Worth, Texas, the National Cutting Horse Association has 20,000 members around the world.
