2012 NRHA Collegiate Reining Championship

Twelve college age riders competed in the 2012 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Collegiate Reining Championship at the NRHA Derby Show in Oklahoma City, Okla. Jenna L. Blumer from Oklahoma State University won the championship title with a score of 219.

Blumer will be a junior majoring in Elementary Education at Oklahoma State University this upcoming fall. Blumer, who rode Jessiesstarlights owned by Gina Cherry, said that she has been showing in the Oklahoma State Fair Park Coliseum Arena since she was 7 years old. Blumer said that she was proud of her run and extremely happy with how Jessiestarlights performed. Lauren Tieche from the University of Georgia, took home the reserve champion title on BT A Smart Lady owned by Terry Owens with a score of 213.5.

NRHA selected four riders from a pool of collegiate NRHA members to participate in the championship. The individuals who competed on behalf of NRHA are Lauren Tieche, University of Georgia; Austin Griffith, Ohio State University; Jenna Blumer, Oklahoma State University; and Jesse Gentile, Ohio State Universtiy.

Four individuals were selected to represent NCAA Varsity Equestrian competitors in the class. The riders selected to compete on behalf of Varsity Equestrian were: McKenzie Lantz, University of Georgia; Indy Roper, Auburn University; Caroline Daniels, Oklahoma State University; and Stephanie Rucci, Auburn University.

The top four placing individuals in Open Reining at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Finals represented the IHSA. The riders who qualified to compete were: Tobie Montelbano, Texas Tech University; Josh Clevenger, Black Hawk College; Alina Carter, Middle Tennessee State University; and Elizabeth Bianco, Ohio State University.
