The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) announced today that it has been honored with a 2012 APEX Award for Publication Excellence for its commemorative 50th Anniversary calendar—its unique look into the people and horses who have made APHA what it is today.
Now in its 24th year, the international APEX awards competition recognizes outstanding writers, editors and publication staff, as well as business and nonprofit communicators in the areas of editorial content, graphic design, and success in achieving overall communications effectiveness and excellence. The awards are sponsored by the editors of Writing That Works, a division of Communications Concepts, Inc., based in Springfield, Virginia.
The competition included such notable organizations as the Walt Disney Corporation, the American Automobile Association, USA Hockey, the American Cancer Society, Holland America, American Airlines Publishing, ESPN, the American Bar Association and Hilton Hotels.
The contest attracted 3,400 entries overall; APHA’s 2012 50th Anniversary calendar was recognized out of 130 entries in the category of Design and Illustration. From the roots of founder Rebecca Tyler’s kitchen table to today’s powerful international breed registry, the 12-month calendar is filled with remembrances of people and horses who contributed to the evolution of the association. Each month details a segment of APHA history, complete with vintage photos.
"We are honored to be recognized by APEX. This award reflects the energy, dedication and expertise of our marketing and creative teams," said Billy Smith, APHA Executive Director.
