Overlapping Youth World Shows give Paint and Appaloosa families chance to appreciate shared love of spotted horses
APHA and ApHC look forward to social activities during simultaneous shows
A new arrangement between two of the nation’s largest equine breeds will present many ways for young equestrians and their families to interact this summer in Fort Worth, Texas. This summer, the AjPHA Youth World Show and the World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show will be held simultaneously at Will Rogers Memorial Center. In addition to enjoying the feel of a larger show with more vendors and activity on the entire facility, the overlap also means that social activities will be more “social.”
Beginning June 28, youth from the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) and Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) will kick things off with a Boot Camp. Professional trainers volunteer their day to help prepare and polish newcomers from both associations. Hart Trailers will provide a $500 scholarship to one participant. At the conclusion of Boot Camp, APHA Director of Judges Dave Dellin will host a “Ride the Pattern” session open to all exhibitors who wish to have insight from the judges about what they will be looking for during the patterned classes at the AjPHA Youth World Show.

AjPHA Youth World Show expands opportunities for recognition with Novice Youth age splits and more inclusive Introductory classes
Decision to split popular Novice Youth classes by age receives broad support
The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) broke new ground in the equine industry when they announced that their 2013 American Junior Paint Horse Association (AjPHA) World Championship Show will be held simultaneously with the Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) National and Youth World Championship Show this summer. The AjPHA Youth World Championship Show will take place June 29-July 6 at Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth.
APHA, the world’s second largest breed association, has continued to progress into new territory by adding age splits to the Novice Youth division at the show. Since the program’s inception, Novice Youth classes have been offered in 18 & Under only. In 2008, Novice Youth classes were added to the class lineup at the World Show; but it was not until 2009 that winners were named as World Champions. The decision to split some Novice Youth classes into groups of 13 & Under / 14-18 was made after careful consideration and a result of the program’s growth.

APHA Breeders’ Trust Pays Out to Performers, Names 2012 Top Earners
Designed to reward competing Paint Horses and their owners, breeders and stallion owners, theBreeders’ Trust program has paid out more than $14,017,733.92 since its inception in 1994. In 2012, enrolled horses earned more than $766,839 through their Breeders’ Trust achievements.
Highlights of the 2012 Breeders’ Trust payout include:
Total funds available for distribution in 2012: $766,839.11.
Total points earned in 2012: 85,545
Point value for 2012: $8.96
“The primary reason for the decline in dollars per point figure from previous years is less funds collected and more points being earned,” said Director of Breeders’ Trust Steven Imhof. “The 2012 show year was funded largely by stallion subscription fees paid in 2010, which were down by 13% compared to 2009. Also, 11,277 more points were earned in 2012 compared to 2011, lessening the point value even more. However, we are optimistic about the future of the Breeders’ Trust, and look forward to rewarding the efforts of those who enroll.”

Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program Provides Expanded Opportunities for APHA Horses and Members
The American Paint Horse Association is proud to support the creation of the Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program. Initiated by a group of APHA members, the PBRIP is designed to increase opportunities and purse money for participants who breed, promote and run American Paint Horses in barrel racing events.
Central to the PBRIP program is the opportunity to offer APHA dual-approved barrel races at existing barrel racing events with greater ease. Through PBRIP, the association no longer requires the use of APHA judges, offers greater flexibility in pattern size and offers exclusive PBRIP side jackpots for Paint barrel horses at dual-approved events.
“APHA recognizes the number of outstanding Paint barrel horses competing outside of APHA-approved shows,” APHA Executive Director Billy Smith said. “Through the PBRIP, we hope to reinvigorate these exhibitors’ commitment to APHA, provide more opportunities for World Show qualification at existing barrel races, and provide valuable incentives for exhibitors excelling aboard American Paint Horses.”
