Pfizer Animal Health makes sponsor commitment to APHA members
The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) recently announced a new partnership with Pfizer Animal Health. Naming Pfizer as a 2008 Corporate Sponsor was an important step for the association as Pfizer specifically chose to enter into a relationship with APHA as a result of the association’s member enthusiasm and the special place the American Paint Horse holds in the U.S. horse industry.
APHA’s newest partnership is sure to be a winning combination, with the association’s continued position as one of the largest horse breed associations in the world and Pfizer’s strength in equine health. Pfizer offers Paint Horse enthusiasts an array of products backed by science and designed to support optimum health for all types of horses. As part of Pfizer’s relationship with APHA, the company plans to host an educational seminar on equine health and management for all attendees at APHA’s 38th Annual APHA Convention and Membership Meeting, which will be held October 2-4 in San Diego, California.

At the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo’s Chisholm Challenge, held Jan. 8–9 in Fort Worth, Texas, Paint Horse BR Miss Macho topped a field of 98 horses to earn the prestigious Carrot Award, which is presented to one horse that distinguishes itself through its actions. The Chisholm Challenge is a horse show for special needs riders from therapeutic riding centers across North Texas. This year, it attracted about 100 riders from seven centers and included 65 English, Western, halter and driving classes.
The showring, however, is the last place owner Linda Tucker of Stephens, Ark., expected her 13-year-old Paint, BR Miss Macho, also called “Honey,” to be. This is because Tucker retired the palomino overo mare, by Barlink Macho Man and out of RHR Breathless, from breed competition in 2003 when she realized that the horse wasn’t happy campaigning for high-point awards.

APHA offers more with new show management Web site
Now, it’s easier than ever for show personnel to stay organized with the help of the American Paint Horse Association (APHA), which recently debuted a new interactive Web site, which can be accessed from apha.com/showmanagers. The new Web site is tailored to the needs of breed event managers and secretaries, and makes it a snap to find the exhibitor information needed.
The Web site offers a search feature, which allows show personnel to research and verify basic member and detailed exhibitor information by APHA ID number or name. Exhibitor details include the membership status, eligible age group, program enrollment status, eligible exhibitor to owner relationship, novice categories in which the cardholder is eligible to show and classification type—such as Open, Amateur or Youth.

Join APHA in supporting the American Horse Council and saddle up for the Congressional Cavalry
In an effort to better represent and serve the horse industry in Washington, D.C., the American Horse Council (AHC) and the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) are initiating a new direct grassroots effort entitled, “The Congressional Cavalry Program.” You can participate and help to make a difference.
All individual horse owners, breeders, veterinarians, trainers, competitors, recreational riders, service providers and anyone who desires to be involved in grassroots efforts in Washington are encouraged to join the Congressional Cavalry Program. The purpose of the program is to identify at least one member of the American Paint Horse Association in each Congressional District across America who will agree to contact his/her Representative/Senator or other federal officials when asked. AHC is hoping to include individuals from as many of its member organizations as possible to get a cross-section of the horse industry identified in each Congressional district. They will represent their organization and the horse industry when called upon.

15 straight wins: Got Country Grip sets new racing record
Many have dubbed him the world’s fastest racehorse, but Got Country Grip now has a new claim to fame. The two-time World Champion Paint racehorse made his mark in history on Nov. 24, after winning his 15th consecutive race.
Got Country Grip, along with his owner Jimmy Maddux, trainer Brandon Parum, jockey G.R. Carter, Jr., and a large following of fans, waited patiently for the moment when the 4-year-old gelding would earn his 15th straight victory to surpass the Quarter Horse world record of consecutive wins held by Josie’s Bar, Destiny Drummer and Pies Royal Request. All three Quarter Horses won 14 consecutive races, but lost on their 15th trip. The long-awaited moment came during the Olympia Joe Handicap at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas.

The magazine, which has been renamed with a new design for 2008, sponsored the first-ever APHA Family Night at the Races event to bring more recognition to the colored horses on the track.
As floods of racehorse fans poured through the entry gates at Lone Star Park throughout the evening, APHA staff was able to speak with and educate the attendees about Paint Horses and racing. Once visitors stopped by to learn about Paint racing, they were able to witness some of the top 2-year-old Paint racehorses burn down the track in hopes of qualifying for the Lone Star Paint and Appaloosa Futurity finals on November 24.
