Boyd Martin Ready for Rolex
Boyd Martin and his horses are in good form as they ready themselves for the biggest competition on the US eventing calendar, the Rolex Kentucky CCI**** in Lexington next weekend. With the Olympic Games the focus of everyone’s attention, Rolex is an important outing for Boyd as he aims to make the Australian team bound for Hong Kong this summer.
At their final outing before heading to Kentucky, The Fork CIC*** in Norwood, North Carolina, both horses, Ying Yang Yo and Neville Bardos, had top-notch performances in the dressage and show jumping. Inclement weather forced the organizers to move cross-country from Saturday to Sunday in order to make the going safe for horses and riders.

White-Carty Gears Up for Rolex with a CIC3*W Win, Brannigan Adds to Pristine Record at The Fork Horse Trials - the Last Spring Adequan USEA Gold Cup Event
Carty and her long time partner Northern Spy were able to post a double-clear round this afternoon in the CIC3*W division at The Fork Horse Trials, taking home the Advanced trophy Adequan USEA Gold Cup division. After a long and very stormy weekend, with the grounds crew working around the clock to make sure the footing was ideal, the conditions of the course were excellent, the ground was lush and springy, and rave reviews came in droves. All in all, it was a very rewarding day for the sport of eventing.

First West Coast Event of the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series - Galway Downs Wrap-Up
Even though she had a comfortable lead going into the final phase at the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Galway Downs CIC3* in Temecula, CA, Gina Miles wanted to give McKinlaigh a good solid round since their next event will be the Rolex Kentucky CCI4* at the end of April. Though she thought she had only one rail to spare, she actually could have had three down and still won the event. McKinlaigh was rhythmical and balanced as he performed a hunter-like round over the Richard Jeffery-designed course.
In spite of announcer Michael Tucker's constant reminders that Miles and McKinlaigh are contenders for this summer's Olympic Games, she said that she stayed relaxed and focused on the job at hand. "I'm so confident in McKinlaigh – he really does know his job," she said. "It's always nice when you have a rail in hand. I didn't know I had three – it makes you breathe a little easier. But Kentucky will be 'clean round necessary' so you have to put pressure on yourself. You have to psyche yourself up for that."

EMCO Stallion Services Signs on as USEA Future Event Horse Series Title Sponsor
The USEA is pleased to announce an exciting partnership with Equine Medical Center of Ocala (EMCO) Stallion Services, a state-of-the-art operation that recently signed a two-year contract as the new title sponsor of the USEA’s latest program, the Future Event Horse Series. EMCO Stallion Services generously sponsored the 2007 FEH Championships, held in October at Morven Park in Leesburg, Virginia, and felt so strongly about the future of the program that they took the next step—becoming the Series’ title sponsor. To read more about the FEH Championships, which attracted nearly 50 entries of well-bred, promising youngsters, visit the FEH Championships page on the USEA website and be sure to check out the feature article in the upcoming November/December issue of Eventing USA.
The FEH Series, which started as a small educational symposium back in April of 2007, has blossomed into a successful, soon-to-be nationwide full-fledged series. The goal of this new program is to help breeders and owners of up-and-coming event horses promote and market their young stock from yearlings to three-year-olds. Already this year youngsters have been sold at these events—so this aspect is certainly working!

2007 Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series Champions Named!
Becky Holder will need to make more room on her trophy shelf after becoming “Keeper of the Cup” for a second year in a row—this time winning the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series Advanced division with her and husband Tom’s Courageous Comet. Holder, who hails from Mendota Heights, Minnesota and last year won the Series’ Intermediate division with Ann Bower’s Rejuvenate, was thrilled to hear that she and Comet, an 11-year-old gray Thoroughbred gelding, would be the next pair to have their names added to the perpetual Gold Cup Series trophy at the USEA’s headquarters in Leesburg, Virginia.
“This is super,” Holder said after finding out about her newest title. “The Gold Cup is great. It gives us alternative goals for the season and rewards consistency, and I feel like it was a close race right up until the end. The sponsors are tremendously generous, not just with the year-end awards, but with each individual competition. You really are rewarded at each event with great products—Adequan is always a good thing!”

Changes Made to Wellpride AEC Final Results
The after-the-fact discovery that the only double-winner at the USEA’s national championships, the 2007 Wellpride American Eventing Championships, unintentionally had entered divisions for which she was technically overqualified has resulted in major changes to the final standings.
Jennie Brannigan, 20, of Temecula, California, whose electrifying performances in winning both the Training Junior/Young Riders division aboard Plain Jane and the Preliminary Junior/Young Riders division with Cooper were the talk of the AEC, later learned that because she had recently ridden through the advanced level, she was unfortunately ineligible to compete in both of those divisions. This was due to the qualification criterion that for all Non-Horse and Amateur divisions, riders may not have competed during the qualifying period at more than one level above the level at which they are entered at the AEC.

In order to be eligible, the riders and horses must qualify by high placings in events throughout the year. Four horses and three riders made the journey from Area X (Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada) to Illinois. For Laura Borghesani and Tracy Montgomery, the trip from the Phoenix area was 1800 miles and took over two days.
