The festival is "AA" rated, World Champion Hunter Rider sanctioned, and hosts a $25,000 grand prix each week. Horse Shows by the Bay hosts 1,200 horses and offers more than $360,000 in prize money. The festival is held at the Flintfields Horse Park just outside of scenic Traverse City, MI.
While equestrians enjoy the top competition at Horse Shows by the Bay, they and their families can enjoy a multitude of activities that are around Traverse City. The official slogan of Michigan, "Great Lakes, Great Times," is most evident in the Traverse City and Grand Traverse Bay area.

Ever seen Cowboy Mounted Action Shooting?
I went to my first roundup last September in Cashmere, WA, and it was fantastic! Dress up like a western desperado, blast away with 45 cal single action revolvers at targets while at a gallop through a cross between a pole bending course and barrel racing. The noise, the smoke, the excitement - it was more fun than I have had on horseback in years!
The Trails End Arena in Olympia will be hosting the Washington State Mounted Shooters clinic on April 5 and 6, brought to you by Washington's top tanked shooter - Kenda Lenseigne, from Ellensburg. Kenda holds 2 world records, and is the current 2007 Ladies Division 5 World Champion and 2007 Reserve World Champion Cowgirl, as well as the 2007 Champion Cowgirl for Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana!

REQ PUBLIC HEARINGS
Hello from The REQ!
A lot has been happening behind the scenes here at The REQ, and I wanted to give you a quick heads up. We are in the process of wading through the long process of permitting to build The REQ, complete with a major land use designation we have applied for in order to allow us to build The REQ itself as well as additional visitor services.
This process is called a Master Planned Resort, and under the rules of growth management in this state, it requires public hearings.

Letter of Support
Dear Friends of The REQ Center:
We are beginning an important series of government meetings and public hearings to allow us to build The REQ Center by creating what is called a Master Planned Resort. The Growth Management Act requires us to make this land use change, and the process will be complex, but critical to our success. We need your letter of support for this land use change.
There will be people and organizations who will object to this or any land use change, and they will be vocal and very visible in these hearings. Your letter off support will help offset their expected opposition, and will become a part of the official record.

HORSeNEWS from the Kentucky Horse Park, January 15
Dear Friend of the Kentucky Horse Park:
One of the greatest honors the Kentucky Horse Park has ever received came last week with the announcement that we are to be the recipients of a Special Eclipse Award.
The Eclipse is the highest award given in Thoroughbred racing and breeding. It is bestowed annually by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), the National Turf Writers Association and the Daily Racing Form on the nation’s best horses, trainers, owners, breeders, etc.
The Special Award's purpose is to “honor outstanding individual achievements in, or contributions to, the sport of Thoroughbred racing.” It has been the park’s mission from day one to be an ambassador for all breeds, including Thoroughbreds, and in particular for the American horse industry as a whole. We serve the horse, as he has served us so well throughout the centuries.

Dear Friend,
The Florida Horse Park is working to create the best equestrian facility possible for top quality competition. We hope to expand significantly in the future so that equestrians from all breeds and disciplines can have the best experience possible.
As part of our effort to secure funding for our expansion, we have engaged POLICOM Corporation to create an "Economic Impact Study" to determine the financial contribution the Horse Park has on the State of Florida.

Ride beyond Herron Park.....
....and into the wild, blue yonder of the Foy's to Blacktail Trails.
Please read carefully. We need FCTA Member input in deciding how to support this initiative, and we need you to be aware of the Foys to Blacktail Trails project.
The FCTA developed Herron Park as a public equestrian facility for all recreational users. The club has always supported the use of the trails beyond and considered Herron Park the gateway to these trails. FCTA voted to financially support FTBT by donating the proceeds from one mini event for the next two years. Members are also considering matching that donation with Club funds. We'd like to hear from you about this before it is voted on at the next meeting, November 26th.
