Gold Medalist Finds the Life Aquatic at The Sanctuary Equine Sports Therapy Center
 |
| Denise Secino and Windstalker, aka Jack, are a top endurance pair that use swimming at The Sanctuary to keep Jack in top form. |
“I choose to condition my horse at The Sanctuary because it is a state-of-the-art facility with helpful and knowledgeable staff. Their aquatic services provide an excellent conditioning modality, which increases my horse's stamina, while reducing the concussive forces experienced when racing and training. I believe this contributes to Jack's performance and soundness,” says Denise Secino, of Oakhill Farm in Ocala, Florida, who has logged more than 1,400 endurance miles and 11 Top Ten finishes in 29 competitions with her 12 year-old Arabian gelding, Windstalker (aka, 'Jack').
Ten of those 11 top finishes have been since conditioning Jack at The Sanctuary Equine Sports and Rehabilitation Center, also in Ocala. “Fortunately, Jack hasn't needed 'formal' rehabilitation but utilizing The Sanctuary swimming pool has enabled him to stay fit while recuperating after a traumatic fall during competition last November,” added Secino, who began riding competitively in 2006. The dynamic duo have competed in some of the most difficult and challenging endurance races in America, including The Vermont 50, Old Dominion (VT) 55, and Biltmore Challenge FEI 50 in North Carolina where, in 2011, Jack was fourth out of 93 starters and earned the AHA Best Arabian award.

Rakhassa Bey++++// Earns High Point Horse in First and Only Show Season
The Arabian sport horse community met, fell in love with, and lost a magnificent mare in 2012. Rakhassa Bey++++// (Sundance Kid V x Bonwood Splendor) earned the coveted top spot in the Achievement Awards program as High Point Horse, in addition to earning her Legion of Masters and Legion of Excellence in her first and only rated show season, a feat never before achieved. Sadly, “Kassie” was lost during colic surgery in October.
Bought by Bill and Alexis Doughty of Cape Charles, Virginia, in 2011 to be used as a broodmare, the 1999 bay mare nicknamed Kassie made an unexpected impression on Alexis as she came off the trailer. “I was awe struck in love with her and knew I’d have to show her. Of course I show sport horse, but halter and western trainers all loved her too. People noticed her for all the things we love about Arabians,” says Doughty.
Kassie was bred by Suzanne Eves of Robesonia, Pennsylvania who has been breeding since the early 70s and produced other champions like western pleasure stand out Klint Black+++/. While owned by Kimberly Ann Fleischer, Kassie was bred to Klint Black and had one 2006 gelding named Khassidy Bey, owned by Bonnie Kessler. Five years later, at 13, Kassie was shipped south to Virginia where Alexis Doughty fell in love and entered her in her first rated show in January 2012.

Judges & Exhibitors School Called "Best Educational Seminar"
The Judges & Stewards Office at the Arabian Horse Association wrapped up its annual Judges & Exhibitors School, Dec. 6-8 in Scottsdale, Ariz. "It was mind blowing, actually," says Karen Root of Orem, Utah. "That is one of the best educational seminars I have ever attended." The Judges & Exhibitors School operates as the starting point for earning one's AHA judging card and is open to anyone interested in learning about how judges are taught to evaluate horses in the ring.
Judges who have earned their cards across several breeds call AHA's school and training approach one of the best in the horse industry. Professional horsemen and women throughout the Arabian industry urge amateurs, owners, and trainers to further their education at the school. "I talk to owners, trainers, amateur riders who have expressed interest in going to the Judges School and say, you really should go. If you choose to get your judges card and go forward with it, great, but even if you don't, it will really help you down the road in your showing," says Todd Hickerson of Wilton, Calif.
