Sundowner Trailers has re-signed as National CMSA Partner!!!
Sundowner is very proud of the relationship that has been developed with the CMSA. Besides being a great group of people, the loyalty and excitement of the CMSA members are second to none. That is why Sundowner is proud to partner with this great organization.
Not only will you see Sundowner products and dealers at many of the events, you may be shooting with a few of Sundowner’s own! Jim Willingham, shooting enthusiast and Regional Manager for Sundowner Trailers, was introduced to the sport while working at several CMSA events. He was attracted by the good-natured fellowship and the excitement the CMSA events offer. Jim won his class at the Shoot For The Cure at Murfreesboro, TN. and is officially hooked on Cowboy Mounted Shooting!
Sundowner is very proud of our past relationship with the CMSA and is very excited about the future as the CMSA continues to grow.

Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association - The Road to Amarillo & the 2008 CMSA Championship Series
In the world we live in there is one thing we can always count on; that is change. As humans we accept change but really don’t like it. This is a natural human reaction. We have experienced the high cost of fuel. This in turn has affected everything else in the world around us and caused change. From grocery prices to postage, fuel or energy prices have made changes for us all. The Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, Inc. is no different. Our cost of doing business has increased like everything else. From postage, shipping, insurances, ammo, fuel, office supplies, balloon setters, and the list goes on.

THE HISTORY OF COWBOY MOUNTED SHOOTING
CMSA #I
I'm often asked how I originated the idea of Cowboy mounted shooting as a competitive sport. Without sounding like an autobiography I want to give a concise and accurate synopsis of the origins of cowboy mounted shooting and the founding of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association. I want to give credit to all of the hard working individuals who have helped to grow this great sport. You will recognize the names of many individuals in the text of this article. I also want to thank many other dedicated individuals who have made substantial contributions to the evolvement of Cowboy Mounted Shooting that are not mentioned in this article.

What is SASS Mounted Shooting?
What is SASS Mounted Shooting? Think of a cowboy or cowgirl atop a 1,200 pound horse, six guns a blazing while galloping through a patterned course of fire, and you may get the mental image of a cowboy action mounted shooter. SASS mounted shooting is one of the nation's fastest growing equestrian sports and is a direct spin-off of Cowboy Action Shooting.
Mounted shooting is a sport that combines elements of old-time Wild West Show exhibition, along with the elements of barrel racing, pole bending, reining, and many other equestrian skills; all done while using two .45 caliber single action revolvers, loaded with 5 rounds each of black powder blanks to shoot ten balloon targets set in a special random pattern or Old West type scenario called a 'stage'. Typically, a competitor crosses the timing beam at a full gallop and engages the first pattern of five targets. After a shooter fires the fifth shot, he or she returns the empty revolver to a holster and proceeds to the next set of five targets. Mounted shooters are timed through the stage determining raw time plus any penalties incurred; for instance, 5 seconds added to raw time for knocked over barrel, dropped gun, missed target. The contestant with the fastest accumulated time wins.

Why CMSA?
The question most asked by people interested in mounted shooting is "Why should I join the CMSA and what will I get out of it." I'm always happy to hear this question for it gives me a chance to tell what the COWBOY MOUNTED SHOOTING ASSOCIATION is all about. First, let's look at the immediate direct benefits of the CMSA and then I'11 take the opportunity to explain the goals and plans for the growth of Cowboy Mounted Shooting. I'11 try to put in print what has been explained to so many new CMSA Competition Cardholders, beginning with the immediate benefits listed below.
A $45.00 CMSA Annual Competition Card entitles a cardholder to the following.
